I think if you reread the OP's question, you'll see this...."no external temperature sensor displaying the outside temp while driving". He's looking for something that gives him the outside temp while driving. If you look at any factory installed outside temperature gauge on any new vehicle, it uses a probe in the grille. Many are discussing ones that are mounted in a bay or generator area. Those won't be accurate, or even close while driving.

I use unit with a probe, while driving and a wireless unit while parked. Two different measurements.

What causes an ambient air temp difference between the nose grille and the propane cavity?

What could the degree difference be if heading away from the Sun?

X2 on these questions! My car outside temp gauge is not very accurate. Especially after it's been sitting a while after driving. I can see that the ambient temp in the propane bay can be different until it cools and matches the outside temp.

I vote for propane bay as well. Not subject to sun, wind, etc., but still 'open' to the atmosphere. Just installed it today so we'll see how she does.

We mounted our outside sensor in the small area that is right below the main living room slide. There is actually a small unutilized area there that is always shaded (open or closed) and I mounted it there with some industrial velcro

Sure. Inkbird Wifi ITC-308. Has two receptacles; one for a heater, and one for an air conditioner, plus a remote probe. I only use the heat outlet, for my battery blanket, and I use a table top slide dimmer to cut the power to the heater down to about 50W so it’s not cycling as often. Doesn’t take much heat to keep that big lithium battery warm, especially when it’s covered in an insulating blanket. I put the probe right in the middle of the top of the battery and cover the whole thing with the blanket.

I used about $10 worth of electricity for 5 months of use this winter and kept the battery at about 50 deg. F after draining it to about 50% charge, per the manufacturer’s instructions.

So, some feedback on our Inkbird remote temperature sensor in the generator bay. I believe it is extremely accurate while driving. When we stopped for lunch and ran the generator, it rose about two degrees. We were in Florida, so it was a hot day (temp went from 92 to 94) and stayed at 94 after we left. Ultimately, the high for the day was 95.

Probably a lot of ways to do this successfully as perfect is the enemy of good enough. I like our current solution; here’s where I attached it with Velcro (lower right, white box):
