Outlets not Working

Plugged electric heater into outlet near the front door it worked about 5 seconds then quit. Now the TV will not work or the box for the in motion antenna. Went to back of RV found no breakers tripped but reset each one to make sure. Does anyone know of another breaker or fuse link it might have. 2001 Dutch Star Spartan Chassis. Everything else checks out good.

If you have an inverter, check to see if one of the two toggle breakers has tripped. These are on the inverter, not in your power distribution panel. Or that circuit may have been intended to handle very light load of entertainment electronics. Small space heaters are usually 1,500 watts in max setting and 800-1,100 on low setting.

Two possibilities: The 750 watt or 1500 watt draw of the heater you plugged in was enough to overload the 20 amp circuit. It might be the GFCI outlet protection the circuit tripped. On many coaches one GFCI outlet often located near the bathroom sink will trip.
The other possibility is the 20 amp white pushbutton (labelled 20amp CB OUTPUT on my Magnum ME2012 inverter) on your inverter popped out from an overload.

X2 on the GFCI popping .

On our 2000 Tioga we have one GFCI in the Bathroom near the sink and one over the Galley counter near the Galley sink.

Both are the first outlets in each circuit providing GFCI protection for the outlets in both circuits.

Had the GFCI outlet pop in the Galley after plugging in heater . Killed all the outlets on the passenger side of the coach.

Would you mind explaining why not? I slept in this morning and I'm not sure I have learned anything yet today. [emoji17]

Only combo GFCI/Circuit breakers, mounted in breaker panels, will trip due to overload or ground fault.

GFCI Receptcals protect against ground faults. They have no provision for overload protection, that's the job of the circuit breaker, back in the panel.

I agree with what twinboat said. My Cornerstone has three GFI/Circuit breakers in the electrical panel.

They function as GFI’s and circuit breakers.

And when they trip they will not reset without pushing them all the way down then back up.

The GFI’s built into an outlet (home style) do not provide overload protection. The look for a difference on the ground and neutral (a ground fault).

Thanks for the info, twinboat. The day is not lost.
Tell me if I understand this properly or not. A GFCI will trip if it detects even a very small current difference between the hot wire and the neutral wire indicating some or all the current is being diverted to ground by a path other than the neutral or ground wire.
A circuit breaker will trip when the amperage of the current through the CB exceeds the design rating of its bimetallic thermal switch due to excessive heat.
Am I in the ballpark?[emoji848]

Oh, I just found out what an AFCI is and what it does. I maybe could have used one yesterday. A Traveller Room Service electric tea kettle we have owned for many years began to spark badly when I plugged it in to make the DW's morning tea. I really hated to throw it away. I thought it would be easier and better to buy a new one. I was wrong. It seems they don't make them anymore.[emoji45]
