Overhead cabinet carpentry suggestions needed!

Excuse the horrid picture quality and the faux oak... need some suggestions or advice. It actually looks half decent in normal lighting....

I'm at an impasse.... I decided I'd enjoy a shelf. Now I'm stuck on what I should do to finish it up... Should I just add a quarter round to the top back and call it good or do I add a oak ply top and put a quarter round on the top front?

I think I would be tempted to at least cut a piece of 1/4 in oak ply to fit and see how it looks. If it looks good you might even try a 1x2 on top to match the bottom or 1x2's all the way around. Almost like rail and stile.

It doesn't look bad now.

I would be real tempted to finish it with a either one up hinged door or two,Sid hanged door. I think it would make, the space more functional.
BTW: nice work.

Thanks! Yeah, I was thinking about that... A 1x2 across the top would bring it all together.

Thanks! I considered that but I don't have the bits or a table to do the work on, and trying to match the existing doors would bug me badly.

I basically had to cut a dozen cardboard templates as I was going and shaped everything using a hand rasp. Nothing is square on the original cabinets...

I think finishing it off with the oak ply on top and the 1/4 round on the top front would look really nice. It looks good now, but would look even better finished out! Super nice job Btw!

if you get a Kreig Jig you can put pocket holes in the back of your 1 by and it will look great the entry level jig in not expensive and it is how most of the cabinets are put together

Very nice job. I know your pain. I am building a set of cabinets to replace the overhead bunk in my class 'C'. Here is a source for custom cabinet doors, my choice to finish my project.

Wow! That's cheaper than I would make them for. Don't tell my wife she thinks all the wood, tools, jigs, router bits, etc. I bought so I could make our cabinets saved us a ton of money!

Spent the last day or so finishing my TV mount and all the hidden wiring... and just finished a piece of oak ply for the top and the scrap from the 1x4 I used to make the 1x2. I'm gonna try to finish up on this today.

Wired for antenna, DVD, game console, network cable / DNLA server and power cord... too bad the area is too small for my 64" plasma. :(

Oh, that's interesting. I don't need it anymore, but I just bought a mini so I can keep it in the tool bag.

"almost done". I do need to countersink a few holes, but I was just too tired getting everything ready for moving in.

I may end up putting a 1x1.5 or 1x2 on top, but it looks good enough for me at the moment.

I can't state how much nicer it is to get in the coach now. It completely changes the vibe... it no longer feels cramped, in fact it feels so much more open now.

A "before" for anyone interested...
