How long has it been setting? Sometimes, the emergency brakes (rear brakes) will "freeze" to the drums. When this happens, a little rocking will cause them to break loose. When they do it will sound like something has popped near the rear of the coach.
Good Luck

...it sounds like a feature that won't allow you to put it in drive with the parking brake applied.

Is the parking brake released while this warning is displayed? If so there maybe a sensor/switch plumped into the dash brake valve that tells the transmission the parking brake system is on/off....

And like anything electrical, that could mean a defective sensor or better for you, a blown fuse.

Did you replace the sensor before or after you last drove it?
When things suddenly stop working always wonder what it was that last changed. I submit that you double check this sensor.

Could it be telling you that you engaged the parking brake while the rig was still in gear? I don't know if you can even do that (I haven't tried on my Cummins)

Most likely an air pressure operated switch that has stuck. It would be associated with the big Yellow PARK push-switch on the dash that sets the air brake parking mechanism by releasing air from the brake system (the park brake is spring-loaded).

Curious, how did you discovered that it was the shift motor on the transmission?

Thanks.
