Pics of my cracked windshield, replacement options?

I picked up a rock, started as a small 1/2 inch crescent crack. Last night on the way home from the desert in cold weather, this happened. Any recommendations in Los Angeles for replacement? I saw an ad for the Pomona show, vendors can do it there, but I don't know who to trust. I don't think it's worth turning into insurance with a $500.00 deductible.

Have you checked on your out of pocket expense to pay it all yourself?

I agree with John, you might want to use the insurance when you find out the cost of the glass and installation. That's what insurance is for. You don't want to drive with a weakened 'wall' of glass in front of you.

I recently had two different auto window repair cracks in our automobiles. Saflite repaired for $50 and $100 respectively.

I just had the driver's side windshield glass replaced on my 2000 HR Endeavor. I have not seen the final bill, but the estimate was $1,200. If I had glass replacement coverage, I would use it.

I had a rock crack the ACE windshield. The insurance co. send a rep to the campsite to see if a patch repair would. work. It was too big to try to patch.
The total cost of a new windshield was $4400. There is no deductible on windshields in FL so it cost me nothing. It took about a week to get the glass in and another day to install it.

I really keep my distance from dump trucks now.

That's hard to do when the trucks are passing you. That's when a rock broke my windshield.

Mine happened from opposing traffic. It was a car that kicked up a small rock. No way of avoiding that.

Shop around. The DS on my old Southwind started at $1100 and I paid $400 complete after a few minutes of phone shopping!

Hi kiethco,
Consider checking with your insurance. In Florida:
1. there is no deductible
2. the insurance company can't count a windshield claim against you

I can not help with a company because all I've ever used is on the East coast.

I asked a glass guy about repairing a crack and he said the rule of thumb is they can't repair anything over a dollar bill in length.

Same in South Carolina - no deductible for glass. They usually say that if it can be covered by a dollar bill it can be repaired, otherwise replacement is necessary. Had one of mine done last year after a rock hit it on I-95 in Florida.

The dollar bill thing is the rule of thumb I've found out. Mine is double that size. I have progressive with a $500.00 deductible. The estimates I got are 1000-1400. I'm paying the $500 deductible and Progressive said it wont raise my rate since their end would be less than $1000.00
As always, thanks for everyones prompt and informed response.
