Plug and Play Fluroscent Tube Replacements

Having replaced all the bayonet cabin lights with LEDs I then turned to the fluorescents. There are a lot of LED replacements out there but most of them require either rewiring or ballast elimination. Being lazy I was looking for something easier and I finally found it!

I diect ordered two 18in from the above as a test. Got them today and plugged them in. Holy smokes! What a difference! One set illuminates almost the entire front of the cabin.

Amazon used to have them but doesn't anymore. They got consistent 5 star ratings and maybe somebody felt they would blow away all of the other vendors. They have several sizes. Please realize that I haven't tested them for longevity but wow do they work and they are truly Plug and Play!

Not long ago, someone here posted they got them at Wal-Mart. I just bought 48" ones at Menards for my shop, but they also had 24" and 18". And you're right about brightness! I like the Daylight version in my shop and they are bright. Work like a charm. It did say on the box that they required a quick/instant start ballast.

Recently replaced all the 18" fluorescent tubes with M4 LED tubes. Simple rewiring, so easy a cave man could do it. Kinda spendy but high quality, they'll be the last bulbs that ever goes in the fixtures.

The quality of the drop in replacements is imo generally questionable at best. What's more you're hurting your efficiency by stacking an led driver on top of the old florescent ballast. Take the time to do it right the first time, especially given how quick and easy it is. Or just leave the florescent lights alone there isn't that much of a difference in power draw between them and LEDs.

Edit: Additional reason to do it right the first time. Those ballasts in your rv are not very reliable. When they fail you will have to chose between buying and installing new led fixtures that work without a ballast or replacing the failed ballast. So in the long run your not saving your self any work.

I second this, my buddy and I put 2 fluorescent lights in my woodshed and replaced 2 of the bulbs with daylight led. They are fairly bright and don't flicker when starting up

Installed these Bazz units, https://en.lumenco.ca/dev/bazz_specsheet_u17342wh.pdf

Awesome light, very easy to install. Remove the ballast and wire direct to the 12 volt feed. Works with dimmers, I used this model for the kitchen (used same lights for under the cabinets :

Just finished converting all of the 18" fluorescents to the New York LED Luminaries 990 lumen 5500 - 6000K units. No wiring changes. Plug and play. Work great! Tried the Wal-Mart variety. Cheaper? Yep! Finicky? Very. The New York LED Luminaries are truly install and forget, plug-and-play which suits me fine.

On to other things!
