power steering oil leak
Good morning:
I have a Cummins 2007 400 ISL 03 on a Freightliner chassis. I think it is the control valve has corroded and is leaking oil (more than a leak, drained the oil reservoir) trying to find a replacement or repair but having no luck what so ever. Nothing on the internet that I have been able to find. The info I have received from Freightliner is a model # RV000042S. When we unscrewed the valve it is pretty eaten up from electrolysis. Any help or suggestion would be appreciated.

Power steering leak
When you say control are you referring to the steering gear that actually turns the tires?

No it would be the hydraulic pump that assists the steering. It is located on the engine.

That is the pressure relief valve on your pump. Read the attached screen shot. White House Products was the only source I found with out replacing the whole pump.

Morning DJJ:
Thank you again for your help and advice. I am in touch with White House Products and should have my part in the next week. Do you recall how many quarts of oil it took to refill the oil reservoir. Once the reservoir was full did you start the engine right away. I know I will have to monitor the oil as it fills the hoses. Any special instructions you can recommend. Your help has been really appreciated. I have spent the last two weeks calling all over North America with no luck at all including trying to buy the whole pump. I have been thinking of buying a second one as a spare and have it available to anyone who breaks down on the road as a loaner until they get their replacement. Hate to have someone go through what I have and my motorhome broke down in a RV repair shop while getting one of my basement doors repaired.
All the best

Great news.
I did not drain the reservoir, I just swapped out the valve and wiped up what little fluid leaked out. Then topped up the tank. The o ring is a square shoulder type.

Hi Jeff:
Well mine was emptied right out. I was having some work done on a door I damaged and when they backed it into the body shop that part let go and the oil poured out. So have to start from scratch. I think about 7-8 quarts with reservoir, lines and pump. Well hopefully the part will arrive the end of next week or the following week if luck is with us then we can plan a little traveling. Have you been able to get out this year? Thanks again.
All the best,

Hi Mel, mine only had an annoying dripping of fluid. When the seal kit did not come with the o rings for the pressure relief valve I tried a regular o ring not the square shoulder type. Still had a drip. Lived with that for another year before finding out about White House and ordering a replacement cartridge.
Yes we are on the road this summer. Visiting family in northern Virginia right now. As far north we will get is Niagara Falls, wife’s family.
Best of luck on your repairs. Hopefully you can get things repaired and travel some.
Jeff
