Power tech generator: what kind of coolant to use?

I saw the reservoir for power tech generator is empty, and User Manual does not specify the type of coolant to use. Are there any particular types/brands being recommended? Thanks for your info.

Thank you much Dean!! I am not sure I have the right user manual from PowerTech, the one I have "Operating Instructions" only mentions at page 37 "Long Life Coolant (year round coolant) and Antifeeze Solution", no standards to meet. I thought "Long Life" is just a general description; there might be in different colors such as green, orange or plain due to different chemicals in it...
Your instruction is awesome. I will head to Napa to get what meets ASTM D5345 or ASTM D4985. Have a good weekend!!

Well, newbies always have questions It's me I have been trying to start generator but to no avail - on battery monitor, house battery is low, 328A. I held generator button "stop" for 10 seconds then pressed and held "start", but nothing. with or without key is no difference. Does this mean the generator being cooked?
It's Power Tech CD8000 with 1024 hours run. I checked fuse it's good. What could be wrong? Thanks.

Yep, same as mine (8KW - KSI) it also says
Quote:
NOTE: Do not use a commercial
coolant/antifreeze that only meets the ASTM
D3306 or D4656 specification. This type of
coolant/antifreeze is made for light duty
automotive applications.

Thank you Mr_D for pointing out. I bought a Shell coolant meeting ASTM D3306 and D4985. I poured it in already (50/50). Is it adequate? I can suck it out if need be as generator has not run yet.

If it meets D4985 it should be OK, if it only meets 3306 than it needs to be replaced. D4985 is a different/higher standard.
Also remember that it should be changed yearly.

When trying to start the generator, are you using the remote switch or the one on the generator.

If it will not turn over, you may have a battery or wiring problem.

If it will not start, or starts but will not run, there is a trouble shooting flow chart in the manuals that is very helpful.

If you do not have a manual they are available online at power tech.

Hi Dean, I tried both remote and the switch on generator. It does not turn over, no click sound. I am thinking something might be wrong with its electric starter or batteries. I took the generator cover (housing) off but didn't see where the starter was... there are two fuses, both are good. will clean battery connectors thoroughly and see how it goes.
