Hello All,
Is this problem only happening on the Ellipse and not the Tour? I seems most of the posts are about the Ellipse......

My 2012 SunCruiser has had bed worked on 4 times. End result from independent rv specialist, motor Winnebago uses for power bed is same as in an small “electric drill”. How ridiculous is that, no wonder the motor never has enough power to lift bed head.
Next step, looking for someone to replace with real motor

Goldviper, the problem is not limited to Ellipse. Our 2011 Tour experienced the same problem. Dealer told me the switch under the headboard had worked loose and became crooked. Reseated the switch with longer screws and no more problems for at least the last year (hope I didn't just black cat myself).

Hello Rusty, We went to the local Winnie dealer today to get our first hands on look at the 2012 Ellipse Tour 42QD. We entered the coach, very nice layout. I headed to the bedroom with the wife and the Sales Guy (Rich) in tow. The headboard was raised, before I could say "the headboard is raised", Rich says, "the bed will not lay flat and the slide will not come in because of a bad microswitch". I informed him that this was a common problem and talked about alot on the forums. He had no idea, he thought this was an isolated case. He said they noticed it yesterday when they were going to move the coach. This is not a good way to sell an "almost $400K Coach".
I found some other negative issues with this unit. The miter cuts on several of the cabinet doors were not square, they were not smooth and were not flush. Really very obvious. I pointed this out to him, he looked at the doors and said the Salesman thing "We can have those doors replaced". Terrible Quanlity Control. I am a rooky, this is my first every coach and I spotted this right away. I feel bad for the unsuspecting buyer that does not read the forums.
Also, this coach was decorated with all black furniture, the cabinets were also dark wood and the table and countertops were also black. It was like walking into a cave.
NEWS ALERT----------THE ALL NEW 2012 TOUR 42JD IS ALREADY BEING DISCONTIUED FOR THE NEXT MODEL YEAR------PER RICH THE SALES GUY.
Having said all of the above. We are still going to buy 42QD in the next couple of months. What a great floor plan.

We are looking at an unsold 2012 Ellipse, one of the best floor plans and driver cockpits I have seen. To upgrade to this coach from our 2011 Phaeton would be somewhere between $90K to $105K is my guess but wow, I dont want to spend that kind of money to inherit big slide problems due to the bed retraction issues.
What is your overall satisfaction with your Ellipse? There have great room and are gorgeous but I dont want to step up if the maintenance issues are really big?
I hear the Maxum chassis and front end suspension are superb?
We really like the space in the Ellipse and we love its contemporary look.
Thanks for any feedback you might offer.

Overall this is a near perfect machine. I would highly recommend it.
After our last three rv's I would consider this Ellipse to be the best in quality and comfort. It surpasses our last custom built rv in many ways.
We have developed a temporary fix that has solved the bed retract problem. I still hope Winnebago retrofits with a larger electric motor though.
The solution is to place thin flexible plastic cutting mats between the mattress and headboard (especially the area where the air tubes rub against the headboard) to help the mattress slide to the retract position. I also use the same technique on extension.

Thank you for your feedback, it is helpful to talk to a real Ellipse owner. We really like our Phaeton but he Ellipse is a nice step up and we love Rvng. We may make a run at getting an Ellipse, thank you.

We have the 2012 Ellipse 42QD and absolutely love it. We did have the bed motor problem, but one trip the dealer and it was fixed. That was last September and there have been no problems since. I would strongly encourage you to give this coach serious consideration. You will not be disappointed.

LOOKING AT A COUPLE 2012 Ellipse 42QD,s. dealer wants approx $277K for either of them. As you would expect, they want me to take a 20 per cent depreciation hit off my 2011 Phaeton and have me give the difference to them of $117K. The price on the Ellipse is OK, but the hit on the trade is steeper than it needs to be...the Phaeton has less than 9 K miles on it....is debt free and paid for in full. I paid $200K cash for the single rear axel Phaeton last October. As mentioned we like the Phaeton but the Ellipse is a higher end coach with more room and more features.
Tiffin services their owners like NO OTHER, but we know the Itasca is well built.
I was thinking of an offer to them of $90K to $100 K tops. Do you have any opinion on that trade idea seems like a fair deal for all to me.

Congratulations! As I said, you will not be disappointed.
Make sure you do the following test ... Raise the bed; bring in the slide; put out the slide; lower the bed; repeat about 5 times.
Tell the dealer beforehand that you are concerned about the bed issue and want them to test it before you get there and ensure it works ok
Good luck.

Hello Largeandy,
If you are going to La Mesa RV to buy your QD. They are fully aware of this issue. I was there a few weeks ago and the QD I looked at had this problem. Read my post, back up the list.
We are close to buying a 2013 Tour/Ellispe 42QD in a month or so. What a great floor plan.
Congrats on your new coach.

thanks, we did get our coach from lamesa rv in mesa. There is a service rep there who is really, really competent, his name is eli saldana and he reslly put a lot of attention in on this issue. We are using the new ellipse now and going through learning the new systems and nuances for this coach. We really like the coach.
I really cant emphasize enough how helpful mr. Saldana was..........very rare to get that type attention and service in the rv business.
The elipse is a really, really nice coach. This is our third class a, this coach is a real step up for us.
Thanks for your note. Happy trails and safe travels.

WE SAW THIS COACH......I AGREE WITH ALL YOU SAID ABOUT IT. THE ONE WE BOUGHT, WE ORDERED FROM THE LOT IN SAN DIEGO. THE CUTS AND CRAFTSMANSHIP ON THE WOOD WAS MUCH BETTER. THE COACH YOU REFERRED TO HERE HAS BEEN TO LOTS OF SHOWS.
THE BLACK IS PRETTY BUT TOO HOT FOR CLIMATES LIKE PHOENIX AND PALM SPRINGS ETC.
THE FLOOR PLAN IS OUTSTANDING NOT TO MENTION SEVERAL OTHER FEATURE, LIKE BEING ABLE TO ELECTRONICALLY LOCK ALL OUTSIDE BAY DOORS WITH JUST ONE SWITCH INSIDE THE COACH.
COACH DRIVES AWESOME WITH THE MAXUM CHASSIS AND 450 hp cummins.
Shop around, get the colors you want. Best of luck.
Andy
