Premium Diesel
Stopped at a gas station today and they had #2 diesel and next to it another pump with premium diesel. Neve saw that before. Premium was 30 cents more.
What's the difference besides 30 cents

Premium diesel is basically regular diesel with some cleaning additives thrown in.
According to the National Council on Weights and Measures, “premium” diesel fuel is defined as a diesel fuel that is enhanced with an additive.
There are NO enforceable guidelines as to WHAT constitutes 'premium'
And then there is that $0.30/gal higher price

^That's the operative phrase. As the article linked below points out, adding a dye to change the color could constitute calling it "premium."
Even if it has all the ingredients listed in the article, I'm skeptical whether it's worth it for us as RVers to pay $30+ a fill-up more for it. Possibly if running a commercial fleet of vehicles under extreme conditions, it may pay off down the road but definitely not for RVers in my opinion.

Some people just feel they gotta have the most, biggest, best, most expensive if anything, so they'll buy it. Sounds like a profit line to me.

Wow, that's a new one to me. You can got to Walmart and buy Diesel Kleen for about $17. I did that after taking the Camp Freightliner class. Much cheaper than buying 150 gallons at a $45 premium.

It could be that the station sells bio diesel and the "premium" diesel. That would account for the price difference

Premium diesel is a new one for me. Fourteen years with a DP and 100K mileage and have never seen premium diesel.

It also could be differentiating between #1 diesel and #2 diesel..
OR ...as has been suggested Bio-fuel and "real" straight #2 diesel

Our local Cenex has #2 diesel fuel and premium #2 diesel fuel. The premium has an additive. But it's only 3-6 cents difference in the price. At 30 cents it seems like a rip off.

I have been buying diesel for over 50 years and have never heard of such a thing. Sounds like someone is trying to pull a fast one. Number one, number two, dyed, and bio is normal. Premium sounds like a scam.

Sounds like that station got a good thing going....ha-ha
Thanks for the link above, if fuel had all that stuff in it, I might be willing to pay the extra $0.30....
All diesel by fed law is ULSD, ultra low sulfur. Even bio fuel is ULSD. There's no more on/off road fuel difference, except the dye and the tax
If one chooses to use this unknown "premium" fuel, I'd be cautious about what type of change can be made to fuel lines, pump seals etc...
... even more cautious if it's a tier 4 emission engine

I've seen it once and asked what the difference was. They told me that it is diesel with an anti gelling chemical in it for cold weather diesels. Didn't sound like something I wanted to spend extra money on.

Maybe its for all the Audi and Mercedes diesel folks that were used to paying for Premium Gas for their cars. Now that they run diesels, they must need premium too.
