Progressive Dynamics PD52

I need to replace my Auto Transfer Switch and was going to use the Progressive Dynamics PD52 until I read one user complained about the unit humming.

Anybody care to tell me about it.

Hey Tim! I installed a Progressive Dynamics ATS to replace a failed OEM unit. I'm unsure just which model but mine says it uses DC to the coils to supposedly eliminate hum. I do get some but I can't hear it inside the coach. Sometimes if I rap on the box it quits so perhaps it is just a vibration. Anyway, it is a cost effective ATS without any EMS so I bought a Hughes Autoformer Bull Dog for protection. So far, so good. Had it for 2 years.

We traded posts last February when my ATS/EMS unit displayed an open neutral fault. You may recall I sent it to M&M Electronics for repair. It has worked intermittently since then and I've given up on it.

I've decided to replace with separate units like you. Along with the PD 32 I'm considering getting a Progressive Industries EMS hard wired into the shore power reel bay. There is just enough room but I'll have to use a couple of terminal blocks to make it all work.

Yeah, it is really tight in there, Tim. I'm sorry to hear that M&M didn't work out for you. I've still got my old one here thinking I'd have it repaired for a spare one day. I'll probably not do that now. Anyway, my PD ATS has worked flawlessly. It is pretty basic but does the job. Just have to protect the system with something.

I have Lyght / Elkhart brand it is always dead silent. Esco is same but are listed as high as double the price. It's a little tight if wires come in the relay side but I have two sets coming in mine that way. The single bar type of relays used look odd but usually never hum.
It has AC coils . It is labeled to normally be on shore power so time delay to flip on the genny ,which is good IMHO to let it stabilize. It can be wired either way but I would re-lable for safety sake for someone else in there .
