Anywhere (well, almost)

Another advantage of a propane fire pit is its portability. It can go virtually anywhere...in particular, lakeside on the beach or on a level area where chairs can surround the fire.

This spot is one of our favorites. We are here about 6 to 8 times a season. As pictured, ours propane fire pit is near the wood fire ring, but the terrain around that fire ring is really uneven and eroded, so only a couple of chairs can fit comfortably, and as luck would have it, the spot for chairs is typically downwind of the wood fire. If we have guests, we can position the propane fire pit on a spot where everyone can gather around, and nobody is in the downwind plume of smoke and sparks.

Many evenings we tote it down to the shore and sit by the water and fire.

I know the OP asked about fuel consumption. I've addressed that, but I'll repeat that burning wide open for 3 to 4 hours a day, we get two days out of a tank. Highly recommended: I bought a new tank at Costco, and it comes with a gauge that is surprisingly accurate. I dedicate it to the fire pit. We know when to expect the tank to go MT. I always carry a spare 20# tank, because we frequently use the fire pit on our third day. Since we go to a fill station that charges by the gallon (metered), we refill all tanks regardless of status between trips.

To those using low pressure connections from their rig, bear in mind that the fire pit will consume at the rate stated above, which means that if you use yours a lot, you'll consume about 5 gallons of propane in a couple days. Make sure you have enough on hand for your rig's needs. If you have only 10 gallons on the tongue, you'll want to have a spare stashed somewhere.

But...you're not toting firewood. Room for firewood is room for a spare 20# propane tank.

I have mine in a compartment inside a sturdy milk crate.

We used ours for the first time last night. It was ok. Not as nice as a real wood fire but MUCH better than no campfire
