While you are in the locating stage, PPL is a good resource for seeing their actual selling price of a MH.

You may need a longer draw bar rated for the 10,000 lbs so the trailer does not hit the ladder or rear of the coach, My 04 cat c7 330 had a 10k tow rating, towed 6500 with it no problem.

We have a 2004 Newmar Mountain Aire 4016 with the 400ISL. That vintage of similar higher end coaches may have been the best ever built. IMHO, of course.

I learned the expensive way that you should buy more MH than you think you need ...ONE TIME! Trading is a lot harder than buying (no trade involved) and it will be expensive.

“ strongly considering buying a trailer toad to have between the coach and trailer to reduce the weight in the rear. I’ve heard great things about them.”
Probably by the people selling them. How far can you backup with it? How are you going to position the trailer at the event?

Have you weighed the tongue weight of the trailer? Can you shift things around so it’s only 1000-1200 lbs? 1000 lbs of tongue weight is going to put an extra 1500 lbs on the rear axle. Very few single axle DPs have that big a margin... rear axle close to max.

Adding 10,000 lbs is going to be a 25-30% increase in the weight... don’t fool yourself that 350HP will be fine.

There is some truth in the saying “you can lead a horse to the water, you can’t make it drink”. Good Luck, you’re going to need it.

Thank you for the response is all. You’ve been very helpful. Regarding condition accident report verification, what is the best history report to get for RV? Carfax?

It took us over a year to find the near-perfect coach for us and we actually compromised on the exterior color. The market fluctuates with the seasons not unlike boats just not as aggressively. I did a search today and do see a lack of tag axle equipped DP ‘s in your price range.
Also we found that pictures rarely do justice to what the rig looks like in person. Most times they look worse but sometimes interiors we hated in pics actually looked better in person. BTW... the PPL sales staff is on salary so the are not motivated to make a commission off a sale, so therefore usually are pretty honest about discussing visual defects over the phone. On the other hand they do make mistakes when listing engine size and hp. You will have to get a serial number off the engine to know exactly what size and horse power it actually is. The NADA guide is also a good reference to look at models and available horsepower as a reference to know if the listing is correct or not.
After looking at a lot of rigs, We narrowed our search between Monaco, American Coach, and Newmar, and found our “Gracie” 15 minutes away from us. Also remember that Cash in hand talks... the rig we ended up buying we thought was out of our price range until I went and talked to the owners with a $1000.00 deposit in hand and the ability to get them the rest of their money as soon as we could get a test drive. We struck a deal that we all could live with and are very happy. He had already done a lot of upgrades that we would’ve wanted to do in the future so I saved money in that aspect plus it had brand new tires on it.

Seriously considering a 2008 Holiday Rambler Scepter 40PDQ we saw today. Looking at a 2003 American Eagle 40q tomorrow as well as going back to test drive the HR.

I'd recommend taking a ridiculously crude measurement on your trailer. Run a measuring tape out to 51", and hold the zero end of the tape roughly at your trailer hitch. Then rotate it around to see where that 51" mark first makes contact with the trailer. If it seems like it happens before you want it to, consider extending the trailer tongue. That also helps a bit with tongue weight. The ideas to simply use a longer stinger make that issue worse.

How old would you be willing to go? I can't get this one out of my head since I first saw the pics.

He's asking $59k, and it's a 475HP Detroit 2-stroke. A 38' tag seems like a sweet setup, and this thing has more style than anything I've seen in a campground.

Thanks! However the coach will be used for business and pleasure for vacationing. Going to need at least 2 slides. 👍😁
