I use the metal rod, that is in most RVs, for pulling down awnings. It works great for reaching the tire cover tie down behind the tire (especially between the duals).

One point I didn't see mentioned.

With tire covers that go over and around the tire ....

If you are parked in the west or southwest, use care when removing them.

Critters, including snakes, like to crawl in for comfort.... don't ask how I know!

Well.... here are some more ideas. Yes, slip them on before dumping the bags or putting out the slides for ease of sliding on. Go buy you some dowels that will slide through the grommets on the bottom (tape up one end so it won't go all the way through and get yourself some clips to snap on the other ends after you slide through behind the tire). This works really neat between the duals. So easy! And you know they can't blow away.

We had our snap on ones made by Trevor Nichols in Red Bay, AL. He installs them as well all for about $250. much cheaper than the others we priced. We do get some high winds that were occasionally blowing one off. I put a twisty type snap on each corner at the bottom. Ours look like the ones in post #7 except black. Problems solved. Love them.

Just a observation, but in the past 47 years with popups, travel trailers, and motorhomes I have never used tire covers. On my motorhomes, I usually install new tires when they reach the manufacturer recommended 10 year life. I've never noticed or experienced a problem.

Yes, I've heard all of the arguments and "oh you will die if you don't..." type of comments, but I wonder if tire covers are just another example of advertising corporations convincing owners that they NEED something they really don't need.

I use the white Camco covers. I only use them when the coach is parked at home, between trips. These are the ones with the pocket that slide over the top of the tire. I install them with the coach still aired up, using a see saw effect to get them to slip on over the top of the tires. I put a set of mirror covers on and wiper covers and I'm done.

The tire covers keep the rims looking nicer and sun off of the tires. The mirror covers keep the bugs and critters out of the mechanisms and the wiper covers get the blades off of the windshield.

The only time I cover the tires is when it is parked in our back yard at our AZ home for 2-3 months at a time. I'm not convinced it makes any difference in the life of the tire, but do it anyway. I suppose it can't hurt. I try to remember to put them on before the suspension bleeds down.

I've used the white slip ons for three years, a few times in Yuma I had to hunt three of them after high winds. I usually hook the bungies, that stay was only a month so I didn't
