Also once you remove all wires and mounting hardware, I'm sure you've read on here to have some assistance as they are pretty heavy and awkward. I'll be following your post for ideas on how you mount new tv.

Use the tip of a box cutter blade to gently slide under and pop out. On my old Fleetwood Storm I replaced the old tube tv with a flat panel. I doubt you will re-use that trim wood anyway. I took off the four flat sides and those two other pieces on the left and right so there was a completely flat surface to push the new flat panel back against all around.
I removed all the trim wood so I had a flat mounting surface (which tilts down for viewing) and then bolted a 1/2 plywood inside to one of the sides inside the old tv cavity, bolted a wall mount to that and then to the new flat panel. Then pushed the tv back against the mating surface of the cabinetry and secured it with two removable clips to keep it from vibrating out when you are moving or turning corners.
Took about 2-3 hours total time, mostly in planning and getting the wall bracket in the right spot so when the tv is pushed back against the cabinetry it is centered top to bottom and left to right the way you want it. On mine I have the tv amost flush to the ceiling, maybe down an eighth of an inch and centered left to right in the opening and adjacent cabinets. I put the biggest flat panel in there that would still allow the two cabinets to either side to open, which worked out great as the new tv is only an inch or two below the existing cabinets.
When done, it looked like it could have come from the factory that way. Good luck.
