Ramps for Class A

Anyone use heavy duty ramps to drive up or back up to change their oil?

I have a set of 12,000 pound rated ramps that get the front end up about 8 inches. Great for oil changes and grease jobs. I usually slide a big piece of cardboard (poor man's creeper) under to lie on. It gives a little more room to roll over and move around. On sale for $65.00 from Princess Auto. Normally $85.00.

I made a wood pair of ramps from 2" x 12" and a couple of smaller pieces screwed on 1 end to change my wife Nissan Juke oil.

Built a set of solid wooden ramps using 2x12's, use all the time anytime I want to get under and check anything.

I didn't buy anything fancy, built my ramps from 2x10s. Made 6 of them and they give me 7 1/2" of extra room under the coach - they're a great tool and safe.

I built 6 of the wood ramps like the ramps shown in the above posts. Before crawling under the coach I dumped the air so it would be at it's lowest setting. I then confirmed I could safely roll around on my creeper if the air dumped while I was under. I don't change the oil, 7 gallons is too much to deal with, but do my own lube and leveling. Great for performing a chassis inspection.

Unplanned,

Be careful with that ramp of yours.

The “consumer grade” ramps that I have seen, spec their maximum capacity in terms of the Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) and not axle weight. Cut their advertised weight in half and you will have the maximum axle weight.

Also, these ramps can only be used on a hard surface. There is at least one youtube video showing a pair of ramps, sitting on gravel, destroyed by a passenger car.

If you WallyDock you can pick up a set of 12,000 lbs RhinoRamps for $31 They are not 12k each, its for a vehicle that weighs 12k. I'm not sure I would want to slide under a DP coach perched on those!

Thanks, PA has pretty good stuff usually and my front axel is 9,000 pound rating. These are rated at 12,000 pounds. I had to lift the front end about 1 1/2 feet and remove the wheels to install the Banks exhaust system. Used a lot of 6"X8" blocking!!!

I don't dump the air suspension and extend the Jacks as far down as possible on my DP. I have room to fix almost anything safely.

ramps

I use wood ramps as well. Narrow ones for the front and wide ones for the rear (pictured). They are safe and cheap.

You have blocking under the frame when you are under there then I hope. I don't trust jacks, or air suspension with my life. We had a mechanic under a cabover with the cab part way up working on it. The hydraulic lift cylinders leaked down slowly, trapping him. He couldn't even call for help. Sad way to die at work. Be careful, and use solid blocking, please.

I built my own out of 2*12" that raise the coach 12" off pad.
Drop the air and use a creeper.
Buggers are heavy, but safe.
