Range Hood Vent

Ok... about 6 months into our Class A adventure, the fan over the range quits. We "eat-in" about 99% of the time so we cook a lot. Most meals use 2 if not all 3 of the cook top spaces at the same time. We create heat and steam and who knows what else (some good and some not so good... but dont say that to DW).

In removing the fan mechanism to fix what I was sure was "melted wiring" from the heat, which turned out not to be the case, I noticed some sort of resistor/something in the positive wire (white) to the fan motor. That might be the culprit.

But, as in many of my RV repair adventures I had to cut wires to the light to get the unit out of the hood (cheap black painted aluminum). So... now I am in replacement mode.

Have any of you found a vent fan / hood that really works? We have the external vent in the wall, but I want to see if there is a hood unit that you would recommend so I can just get to that instead of replacing the fan motor unit if I can find one. Would rather something that works than the play model that came with this unit.

BTW.... we have reflectix all around the back and side of the stove top with sheet aluminum behind that. The sides and back are pretty protected, its the top (with the microwave) above that concerns me as well as just being able to push moisture and heat out the vent.

Any input would be appreciated.

If the fan is two speed, the resistor might have been to reduce the voltage for the low speed. You haven't mentioned the make or model of the vent hood, so it's a bit hard to give good advice. Many small 12v fans could be used to replace the existing fan or, you could remove the original fan and install one in the duct or the vent opening in the side of the RV.
