Re: recalibrate or replace 40250-RVC SurgeGuard Auto-Transfer Switch?

My SurgeGuard ATS seems to be acting up. Since it is 7 years old, SurgeGuard tech thinks it might be in its last legs. Considering a 40350-RVC. Tech mentioned changes to the "communication protocol" now used by the RV industry. He warned me that remotes/wiring/shedding control/genset control might also need to be replaced.

Anyone have experience with this type of upgrade?

I'm pretty handy. Is this something I should try on my own?

Thanks for your thoughts!

What coach model/year do you have?

Any remote display for the old SurgeGuard will likely need to be replaced, but probably nothing else. The load shed function almost surely has its own independent monitoring.

Consider replacing with separate ATS and power monitoring device (Surge Guard 35550 or similar) rather than an integrated unit. That way you don't have to replace both if one function fails. You could, for example, choose a TRC or Progressive ATS coupled with a Progressive Industries hardwire power monitor.
