Really cold weather traveling

Will be leaving next week and looking for warm days. Looks like we're going to hit some damn cold weather (-30C, -25F ) Everything has been well winterized but am concerned about the unit itself. Will be running the furnace most of the time should I be worried.

With rig winterized then no different then driving car/truck in very cold temps.

Run heater....
RV furnace not an issue as long as return air and discharge registers are not blocked/obstructed (slides in, items/bags, etc)

First off, welcome to the Forum! Keep us informed about your travels.

As noted, if you keep everything winterized until you get to warmer climates, you should be fine. Just be careful not to drive in much ice and snow if possible.

And above all else, be careful!

If that cold, I turn on the generator so I can run all my portable heaters and electric blankets, in addition to the on board furnace. Also, when parked, check the corners of your slides...many leak air...I stuff rags in the holes.

There are a couple of tricks you can use while driving.

Place an expandable curtain rod behind the driver's/passenger's seat and drape a blanket over it, that will help keep the heat in the cab area giving your chassis heater a chance to keep you warm.

Look for holes that can leak air in the firewall. You can temporarily plug them with rags or better yet get a can of expanding fire stop from you local Lowes/Home Depot. If you cannot find any holes but still have a draft while driving place a blanket/quilt over your legs.

We left Michigan last Sunday. Temps in the mid to upper 20's and snow all the way to Kentucky. Don't remember what they call it but it uses engine heat to heat the rig and hot water tank. Checked the thermostat at a rest area and it was 73, awesome. Our previous MH didn't have that feature and it was a lot draftier up front. Hard to stay warm while driving, furnace or generator and electric heaters.

If you have a "four season" coach, it should be safe for you to put water in your fresh water tank...as long as you keep the furnace running.

You should not have any problems, as you are winterized. Run the furnace as much as necessary. It is designed to run for a long time. I would not add water to the fresh water tank. Instead bring water jugs so that you can flush toilets or rinse off your hands. Once you get to warmer weather then you can de-winterize the whole MH.

Is it safe/ok to use the toilet when you are still winterized? Do people do this when driving in cold weather?

Yes. What you add to the black tank, even if it freezes, will not cause a problem as there is plenty of room for expansion. I would just use some water jugs until you are well south, and can de winterize the whole system.

Bring an extra gallon of plumbing antifreeze and pour some in the toilet bowl after flushing to prevent the flap from freezing. At least for the first two or three days on the way south...

If the liquid in the tank freezes at the outlet valve you'll wish it hadn't! They do break if frozen solid enough. Pour some antifreeze in the tank to fill the valve area and keep adding some as you go.
