Recommended Best Portable RV Generator
I own a 2006 National Dolphin Class A with the Ford V-10. My wife and I plan to dry camp for several weeks this winter in Key West at Sigsbee Naval Base. I understand that it is very difficult to get a full hookup site and we will need to use a portable generator most of the time. What size and brand do most people own and what would you recommend?
Thanks

Lots of threads here regarding portable generator. The search feature will find them.
I have a champion 3100. Quiet, good quality, easy start. Will run one air conditioner. Stays in econo mode most of the time. $699 at Costco.

I am wondering why you would not use your on board generator?

Honda makes some nice and quiet generators. That's what I'd be looking at if I had a need for a portable gennie.

Honda EU series will serve you well and keep the neighbors happy (very quiet).

Doesn't your 2006 National Dolphin Class A have an onboard generator?

We've been going to Key West Naval Air Station for a while. I use my on board generator - changing oil, oil filter and air filter every 150 hours. I use my AGS system to keep the batteries charged enough to run our frig, sat TV, CPAP, etc after quiet time (11 PM). To make sure, I added 2 extra batteries for a a total of 4. I also use Sea Foam gas treatment, have a generator stack and figured out how to change my gen plugs. I use about 4 gals of gas per day extra.
Don't even worry about the stand alone.

From our experience at NASKW/formerly Sigsbee, I do not use a generator to run anything but re-charge the battery bank while watching the news and cooking meals. That amounts to 2 hrs morning and night.
Our first time there we tried to run the air conditioner, but quickly discovered that was a bad idea. When we had to shut off the generator at night we were miserable. It's better to acclimate to the climate and forget air conditioning.
FWIW, call before driving down there, last year they were turning folks away, they were completely full.

I use our built in Gen Set in our MH so I do not carry extra units HOWEVER I do own (2) Honda iu 2000 units that I use for work. I can run them together to double output and they are REALLY QUITE. I also purchased a 6 gallon feeder gas tank that will keep both units running without refueling for over 30 hours at full output.
I think Genrack is now producing comparable units @ a better price along with some nice options that Honda does not offer.

I also like the Honda portable generators. We purchased 2 of the 2K units and hooked them together to get 30 amps. They are quiet and small enough to carry around.
