Refrigerator problem...my bad
Well...... I was beginning to question the efficiency of our Dometic. Texas heat and in a slide-out doesn't help any. I took it in to my local Tiffin dealer for testing. Well.... seems I caused part of the problem. Not wanting wasp and other critters I installed bug screens. Tests showed that in doing so I reduced the air flow by 40%!!! WHO WOULD BELIEVE THAT SCREEN WIRE WOULD RESTRICT THE AIR FLOW THAT MUCH??? Well.... it's true. Learned something new for sure. BUT we decided to go ahead and add an extra vent fan. Prior to correction of Operator error the pantry would become really warm to hot, like a warming oven and the a/c thermostat would read at least 10 degrees warmer. Hopefully, I won't perform any other dumb stunts. I am so ashamed....

is that true ?!?! screens mess it up THAT much ?
My slideout mounted refrig seems to be laboring too....
am wondering how to mount fans, both in the intake and exhaust panels...
but with the intake and exhaust on the side, not sure what to get... how to mount....
on the bottom panel we do have 110 v circuit, but can I mount a solar powered one ?
tell me more ! I'm all ears

I installed screens on my heater and hot water outside vents to keep bugs out per the recommendation of the tech guy at Camping World that did my walk through at delivery. One would think that the manufacturer would of installed screens if the is a "Known" problem? Does the manufacturer say it is OK to install these screens? Will it cause some problem as it has done with TXUSGUY's frig?
I look around at other campers in camp grounds and I see some with screens but many without so I question how big a problem we have with bugs nesting inside? Is this an ole campfire tale or is there some truth to this problem?

If you search this forum, (search button at top-right) you will find info about wiring aux fridge fans and other ways to cool your fridge. One currently going, which I started, is called 'wiring 12v muffin fans', check it out.

Thanks for that post! I just bought screen for mine because we have a ton of mud wasps around. I guess I'll have to install fans first...

When you removed the screens, did it remedy the problem?

Our Dometic is not in a slide out & I did put screens over the vents. However I have two pancake high velocity style fans blowing uupwards behind the fridge. Seems to work just like it should.

You aren't dumb. Trying new ideas is how things get improved. Dumb is doing the same thing again and expecting different results.

After paying a lot to have the heater cleaned out after dirt dobblers (or however you spell it) made nests inside the pipe, I put screens on ours. I have them over the water heater and the heater vents. I haven't had any problem in 2 years with the newer coach or 6 years on the old coach since then. But I did not ever have a screen over the fridge vent on the old one because of the heat issue. I had an extra fan installed behind the Norcold we had on the old coach. I regularly had to clean out wasp nests and dirt dobblers from the back of the fridge compartment.

Thanks for the feedback on the water heater and heater screens. My coach has a residential frig so I do not think I will have the same issue as with the RV style frig.

Same here, put in the screens and the refrig did not work nearly as well...pulled them out and it improved greatly.
