Remote Generator Switches

I need some ideas to solve the problem I have with my remote generator start / stop switches. Both switches lost the ability at the same time to start or stop the onan 8000 quiet diesel . Both indicate generator operating. Switch on generator works fine.

Thank you for any suggestions.

You could have volts going to the run hour meter is it Turing as if the genset is running? Thatís usually the same info to tell the switch the genset is running.

There is a wire harness that comes out of your generator. On that harness, anywhere from 2-5' from the generator, is a plug. Unplug that, clean out with electronic cleaner, and try plugging it back together.

Remote Generator Switches

Here are a few pages from the QD8000 installation manual. It shows the location of the remote connector and the connector pinout.

The complete manual is here: https://www.cummins.com/sites/defaul...s/A046L051.pdf

This would be my first suggestion, especially if this occurred after driving through heavy rain. If you're agile enough, there is usually room to crawl under the coach and sit upright behind the generator, after you slide it out. This is where you'll locate that connector. Take a small bag with some side cutters (for zip ties) some new zip ties, a rag and maybe some air in a can. Before the project, pick up a small tune of dielectric grease from any auto parts store. Disconnect the plug, clean and blow it out well and then apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the connection.

If you can, use a zip tie to secure it out of the way of any wheel spray.
