Replaced Step Motor and assembly

After replacing my step motor how do i determine where the gear should be placed on the teeth of the step arm or does it matter. Will the motor automatically stop when the step is in or out. ? Duh i am new to all this electrical work. I am putting it all back together tomorrow hopefully if i get some advice.
Thanks for your answers.

You are correct. No matter the teeth position, it stops when it runs into resistance.

It does not matter where the gear is placed. The step shuts off, due to over current draw, when the step reaches the end of its travel (either way). All the best.

As noted above. Additionally be sure to properly adjust the step support cams in the open position. To much play increases stress on the step motor teeth causing premature failure.

I would be interested to know more about "properly adjust the step support cams" mentioned above. Thank you.

Go to the Kwikee web site and review procedure in the appropriate manual for your steps. Basically when the steps are out the goal is for the cams to support your weight not the gear.

My Tuscany has dual motors and you synchronize them on installation by running one out a bit if needed. I actually didn't know that many had just one motor. Sounds like you have gotten some good advice earlier.

Yes I was worried because I was told by Kwikee and other manufacturers no other motors would work and .would have purchase complete step assembly for 1500 + 180 shipping. Thanks to irv2 I bought a motor from Orielly for $44 and works perfect. Thanks to all the help from members

Take your motor into the auto parts store and they can usually match it. It's a car window lift .... frequently matches a Saturn.
