Replacing grille (not grill, as in BBQ)

I posted this in the Newmar forum but I guess no one has had an issue.

The grille of my Bay Star appears to be made of soda straws. LOL Flat black, 1/4" long soda straws. And apparently some of them took a whack from something. Easy enough to press back into place for aesthetic purposes, but I'd like something sturdier.

Has anyone ever replaced a grille with an aluminum mesh? It looks simple enough, but I'm a believer in hearing from those that have been there/done that.

This is what I'm thinking of...

lowes ect. has a lot of sheets of perforated metal all shapes and sizes attach from back of grill opening looks great
