Replacing jack knife sofa bed

Looking to replace an old sofa bed in a 2001 Itasca Suncruiser . Have heard that I can use a regular sofa bed vs one made for RV's. Has anyone used one?

First off you cannot replace an old Jack-Knife Sofa Bed with a regular sofa bed for the following reasons: It won't fit through the door unless you want to remove the windshield. You would have to find a way to secure it to the floor. Also there are seat belts that would need to be fed through the back somehow for anyone riding on the sofa while traveling.

I removed the Jack-Knife Sofa Bed as it was getting old and sagging in places. Plus for anyone sitting on the sofa watching TV they always ended up with a crook in their neck.

I have placed an order for a Lazy Boy Powered Rocker Recliner (see photo) to sit where the J-K sofa bed sat. That will be SO much more comfortable at least for me. Others can sit on the floor or I have some portable chairs they could use.

I replaced my jack knife with a queen sofa bed, had to move bench at table 3 inches, it came in thru side door, drilled a couple new holes for belts , it opens right up to kitchen counter so you have to step on bed to get out door.Best mod for HR 30 ft Admiral

We just removed the J couch and replaced it with an entertainment center with an electric fireplace. We also moved the TV from above the drivers seat to onto the entertainment center. Thom bolted it to the floor and will then hang the TV from the overhead cabinets so that we don't have to keep moving it to the bed when we want to move down the road. At the same time he unbolted the other couch and moved it over a few inches so that it was centered on the window ... yea he's an engineer and it was bugging him not being centered.

You can pretty much do anything to make the coach yours.

Yes, you can use residential sleepers in your coach. I did it and so can you.

Does your coach have a slide out where your current sofa is located, as the sleeper will need about 80" some odd inches to deploy.

Still, they are shorter than most of the other sleepers by design. They fit flush against the wall.

The Comfort Sleeper is high end and worth what you pay. They have very detailed measurements on their web site so you can be assured a good fit. They also have models with narrow arm rests that allow you a wider bed surface. I have a true queen in my coach....super nice.

Seat belts came right up through a nice open slot at the back of the seat surface and back. You will need to devise a way to secure it to the coach. A little time and thought can get that done. I had to use shorter legs on the back than the front, as the slide floor is raised in the back. I got lucky and just used the shipping legs and put the nice finished wood legs up front. This allows the bed legs to lay fully flat at your feet...very important so you don't bend your bed frame because it's not level with the floor.

You will lose some floor space because the sleeper projects out more than the tiny jack sofa. I did not see this as any problem at all.
