Replacing the Awning Spool

is it possible to replace the awning spool with out removing the whole unit from the coach, just leaving the canvas hanging on the side of the coach?

Yes;
Here's a video that may help. Use caution when unwinding the spring tension. There are strong springs in both ends of the tube. Both springs need to be wound to the same tension or the awning won't retract evenly.
When the ratchet for my awning broke, I had Grace & Sons RV Repair here in Pensacola replace the spring and ratchet. Reasonable. Owner is Ernie Grace. 850-475-1850 Not far from Milton, Located at 10421 BetMark Lane, in Pensacola, off Ten mile road between Chemstrand and Hwy29.
