Beware of MCD shades. The motors fail often.

We've had our MCD motorized cockpit shades since 2010. Not one motor failure.

If you Google:

The issues are evident, and troublesome.

I installed my MCDs about 5 years ago and several have failed. No thanks. Wish I would have left my original pleated shades up.

The OP doesn't have to get motorized shades. No motor=no presumed problem. Our windshield one is the only motorized shade we have. All the rest are manual. They also give us no trouble. I do have 2 that are slow to go up when it's cold, but that's just because I haven't gotten around to adjusting the tension on them.

Automotion is another brand posted about on iRV2 that seems to have a good following.

I bought two roll up shades from Lowes. They are manual and roll up and down with a chain. Work fine since 2010.

I have had the spring assemblies break on 5 of my Auto Motion manual dual roller shades in three years of use. The same plastic part, connecting the end of the roller to the spring, failed in each one. Sent a broken shade back to the factory for them to "analyze" and was told it was an "installation" issue, i.e. the tension on the roller spring may have been excessive, causing the plastic part to break. I requested instructions from them for adjusting the spring tension and never heard back.
