roof
Wondering if anyone uses home made boards,etc.. to use when walking on the roof of their MH for cleaning and such--and is there any need to. I feel kinda funny when I walk on the roof and always try to walk around the edges Have a 1996 HR---Vince

I walk on them all day at work.
Only the FEMAs I have an issue with cause they have cheap roofs.

And please explain what a FEMA is. Is this an acronym for some brand? Thanks.

It is probably trailers built for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Yes, Federal Emergency Management Agency trailers. Cheap housing units that went to waste and were built as cheap as possible.

Rv roof will normally support a person. I wear old boat shoes just used on the roof to avoid damage to rubber roof. (gravel, grease etc) Fiberglas roofs can be slippery.

We don't use boards - too much of a chance of getting a rip if one shifts while walking on it.
Instead, we use beach shoes - the light weight ones you can get at any sporting goods store. They won't leave marks on your roof & they provide traction, especially when washing when it can get slippery up there.

I treat my roof much like my kitchen floor with one or two major differences.. Walk all over it, no boards or any special consideration save one..
I avoid the edges
I'm over 300 pounds
(The other special consideration is getting on/off the ladder)

Most RV roofs are capable of supporting one person. If the roof gives when I step onto it I identify the roof supports and only step on them (16" OC). I never did use a wood board on my EPDM roof for fear of puncturing it and sustaining water damage.

At my age the OEM ladder is off-limits. I use a 13' Cosco folding/extension ladder, it's much easier to climb/descend and at a comfortable angle. I can use it for cleaning the entire windshield too.(can't use a squeegee on a curved windshield)

I've been all over my roof and have felt no soft spots or give. But I only weigh in at a buck seventy.
