I have a 2000 40 ft.gulf stream and need a roof should I go with new roof or the pour on roof system

How long do you plan on keeping the coach? What "pour on" system are you considering? There are several "New Roofs" Some have more benefits than others and price will always play a factor.

I used the rubber roof coating on my last unit, it was 8 years old when I traded and looked as good as the day I put it on.

GO for the new roof. It will save you headaches in the future and add resale value.

Depends on the existing roofing material. If it is rubber, replace it. If it is aluminum or fiberglass paint it. Did you know that you can replace a rubber roof with aluminum? Rubber roofs are just a "cheaper" method of roofing.

In either case, the small pebbles in your shoes are what causes perforation of your roofing materials. Be sure to wear booties when walking on your roof or you will have little pin holes in your new roof that turn into big holes later down the road. It always makes me laugh when I see some fool walking around on his RV roof in his street shoes. I think to myself, there is $5k stroll!

A new roof from rvroof.com is going to cost $130 a linear foot. Over 4500 on our coach. But it is guaranteed for the life of the vehicle, even if it is sold. If it leaks or you have something on the roof replaced just take it to one of the dealers to reseal.

If you are handy, and physically capable, you can reroof yourself for about $600-700 in material and your time.

I would replace the roof. Gives you a chance to see how the underlayment is doing and replace as needed. 40'x 9' is 360 sq. ft. PPL motorhomes has a sale on materials right now.

I think it depends on what is wrong with your existing roof. If it's a rubber roof and the membrane is merely worn down, the liquid rubber roof coatings work quite well. If it is torn or loose (has bubbles), or there is water damage to the wood substrate, strip it off and replace.

Many people assume they need a new roof when they have water leaks, but that is often NOT true. Leaks come primarily through seams and around the many openings that protrude through an RV roof. Those need caulking, not a new roof membrane.

When I reroofed my coach the hardest part was getting the rolled aluminum up on the roof. I had a friend help me, put it on a sheet rock jack and raised it up the roof level and rolled it on to the roof. We did have to pick it up and put it on the jack through. it is mostly ladder work taking off the side trims and you do have to remove the awning. If I had to replace a rubber roof, I would use aluminum. Only tool that I would make sure you have is a carpet roller. A roller with 2 handles on it. It is mostly scraping, cleaning and removing the roof fixtures, just labor. But, you do have to deal with the sun, so mornings or evenings are best. I bought the material from a local RV parts supply store. Good luck
