I have a 2000 Fleetwood Southwind/Storm 34D, it is 35' long. It currently has two roof top A/C units. A 13.5K in the front and a 11K in the rear. I was wondering if anyone has replace the two roof units with one unit only. The vents are in the ceiling and it looks like the run full front to rear. Connecting the ceiling channels does not look to be too complicated and then making a finish panel to close the opening where the rear unit is. I was thinking that maybe 15K unit might be enough to cool the whole RV. Any thoughts about this????

Probably not enough cooling power from one unit on hot days. In my last coach, I had 2 15K units in a 40 foot coach and running just one didn't cool the coach below 80 on hotter days.

In a coach that size, on a hot day you would soon regret not having two units.

Yes, it would be possible.

HOWEVER - You may want to review the hundreds of posting from the last 6 months from people wanting to know what it takes to get their two AC units to cool their motorhome.

Our Coleman 14,800 btu model works great on on our 28 foot rig. I'm sure it could handle another foot or 2 just fine but 7 might be pushing it.

I don't know where or what time of year you plan on camping but our experience has been we needed more AC than the 15,000 front and 13,500 rear roof tops could put out. We replaced the rear with another 15,000 unit and it still gets warm on hot summer days in our 35' Allegro Open Road.

Remember his is a 2000 so its probably still white. I know the dark colors are the current trend but i would never buy anything darker then a light tan. For every shade darker you go the harder it is to keep cool. Still with that said... even on white... you are going to want both units.

My 3 black A/Cs are now silver to match the exterior.
Looks better, and cools better.
What were they thinking?
Used Rustolem 2x paint, 1 can covered all 3.

Many thanks to all. Looks like I should probably keep both units. I was just hoping to eliminate some of the noise in the back.

You could opt just to run the front at night if the AC noise bothers you when you are trying to sleep.

We actually prefer to run the AC on low fan to sleep instead of listening to it kick on and off. The compressor will come on as needed be we don't notice it as much.
