Roof running down windshield

Hey all,

I have a 1999 that I've owned for 1 yr. I noticed that every time it rains, something white is running down the sides of the coach. It's not real noticeable except on the front windshield, because a lot of the coach is whitish in color. Anyone seen anything like this before? I'm wondering a couple things...
1. Could someone have treated the roof with the wrong product?
2. Is it a rubber roof?
3. Would a sealer take care of this?

Any thoughts?

Jim

I own a 2000 Pace Arrow Vision which had the same problem. Eventually the white coating on the roof begins to break down becoming chalk. Eventually it will wear off completely leaving only the black rubber showing. When that happens, you will need a roof coating or a new roof. I redid my roof last year with Heng's and it eliminated the chalking and made the roof look new.

I have the same issues unless I get on top and scrub the roof with Dawn and a soft bristle car wash brush at least once a year. I usually wait until Spring to do that, since it sits outdoors all Winter. That's also a good time to look for spots that mind need re-caulking, such as around any of the hardware that sits on the roof. I haven't noticed any areas where the roof coating has worn completely off but do recognize some thin spots. I plan to ask the (rubber) roof manufacturer for the best way to recoat it.

Clean the RV well top to bottom.
I use a power washer with care to really get the deep stuff off. Followed by detergent and a stiff brush. Then a good rinse.

If fiberglass roof, you can compound polish it then wax.

If rubber, there are products specificially for the purpose or rejuvenating the roof. If the rubber roof was coated prior, then hopefully the powerwashing got all the loose stuff off already.

Compound and wax the body and decals.

It's normal. The white coating on a membrane type roof (AKA rubber) is a wear item but will last a very long time. To help keep the windshield clean add a length of flexible roof gutter along the top edge of the windshield gasket. It will catch pretty much 99% of the run off unless the rain is very heavy and it overflows the gutter. Looks like part of the front cap on my rig.
