Rooftop Satellite Dish

My MH is 12'-3".

Do they make a rooftop satellite dish that, after installation, would still keep the overall height less than 13'-6"?

I'm kinda partial towards Dish Network, but I have read good things about Winegard.

I don't really want a unit that you place on the ground. I realize that, with a rooftop unit, that sometimes you will not be able to see the bird. Whereas, the unit that you put on the ground can be moved around until you get a signal. However, I would still rather go with a rooftop mounted satellite dish.

Any suggestions as to getting it professionally installed? I don't want it to leak.

Rooftop Satellite Dish

On the west coast I would recommend Advanced Satellite in Eugene, also down in Palm Desert.
We have had them install 2 rooftop dishes on our last 2 coaches.
Personally I would much rather have a rooftop mount that I just hit a button and it zooms in then to walk around out there trying to get a satellite dish lined up.
We have had the the RF Mogul dish installed both times.

Dish Network is a programming provider. Winegard is an antenna manufacturer. You need programming, an antenna, and a receiver.

I recommend Advanced Satellite in Junction City OR and the RF Mogul. You can get the RF Mogul for either Dish or Direct.
I have the old MotoSat HD unit with the RF Mogul controller, very fast lock on as it has it's own GPS. Very reliable too.

The RF Mogul Eagle looks like it has a low profile. How long is the target acquisition time? Or, does that depend on where you are in the country?

RF Mogul is in Salt Lake City; they will install it for you. Lots of other dealers will handle it in other places.

We use RF Mogul with Dish Network, and recommend it to you. We are not affiliated with them.

The acquisition time depends on conditions, but is usually less than 5 minutes. It's totally automatic, you just push a button to turn it on, push another button to search and it goes to work. Go hook up your water and electric; it will be waiting for you.

Yes, it's pretty flat when stowed, typically much lower than an AC unit.

The above post pretty much nailed it!

I know it takes less time for that thing to lock on to a feed than it takes to set up one by hand.

We have the Wingard Dish model and would not be without it. works great and as stated above is no higher than an AC unit.

Installed it myself and it is still there! Used roof sealant liberally and no leaks.

We have Dish which is the same as the house, so I carry one of my receivers out for RV trips. I bought the Winegard Roadtrip T4 stationary. It's 13.5" tall but wish now I had spent the extra $$ to get the Traveler. It's only 10" when folded but because it's a larger dish, has stronger reception.

When you say your height is 12'3" is that your measurements or the manufacturer of the coach? Manufacturers "tend" to base it on the height of the rear air conditioner and not on the highest thing attached to the roof. I believe my roof line is around 11.5' so the satellite antennae is well under the 13.5' mark

Winegard Trav'ler mounted on the roof user here, and lovin it! One push of the button and up it goes, searching for the birds, while I'm setting the coach up. Less than 5 min and we're up and running full HD Direct TV. When down, it's lower than the roof a/c units. Yes, roof mounted may hinder your ability to "see" the birds, but a little site inspection helps how best to park or maybe even change sites, if available. We've been unable to get sat tv only a few times, but the tradeoff there was incredibly beautiful sites within trees and the scenery was better than TV. Night time we watched DVD movies. Happy travels...

We us the Traveler with Dish. It's very convenient and has a profile as low as, or lower than, the a/c units.

We have the Winegard Trav'ler. One button it comes on and finds the birds. Less then 5 minutes I'm up and running. One button and it store in less then 5 minutes. When I had it mounted I had it placed forward, almost at the front. This allows better chance for reception in sites where you have to back in and trees may obscure the line of sight.

The 12'-3" height is the manufacturer's height.

When I said not the highest thing on the roof I was referring to radio antennae and such, not something substantial like an a/c shroud or vent. The a/c shroud tops out about 12" above the roof so a satellite antennae won't be much above that in the worst case such as the Winegard roadtrip.
