I don't mean to be a contrarian, but you have paid for a generator, use it all night if you want to, that's what it's for. Most use it as a battery charger as you are generally being advised.
Generators LOVE lots of use and HIGH hours. It's amazing how many brag of low hours as if it is honorable and desirable for anything besides bragging rights.
If you have auto start, it's a no brainer, it will take care of everything for you, just make yourself comfortable and USE you equipment. If you don't have autostart, it's about a $300 add-on, but even without auto start, just start the genny and leave it on.
My opinion is based on over 20 years of RVing in both gas and diesel class As and class Cs. I have also camped in cold weather and below freezing and I have always been as comfy as my home.
