Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Put a good suction-type vent cap on the black tank external vent pipe on top of the MH. Be sure not to leave the overhead vent fan on in the bathroom when traveling. We have been using Happy Camper tank treatment for 19 years and never have any odors.

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

All great advice covering both tanks. Now your original post says a smell. A smell? So is it poo or just a funk. If poo then it's black tank if funk then gray. Just for future reference so that it ques the poo experts or the funk experts..otherwise you get both and we all get confused.

The 1 1/2” vent pipe between your black tank and the roof can separate at the tank causing odors to creep in. If you can see the top of the tank check it. If not, go to the roof and tug on the vent where it comes out of the roof. It should be tight.

This took care of mine when I had the same problem.
