Rv fires
I have read.that RV FIRES seem to be on the increase especially Class A DP motorhomes. Being fairly new to DPs, what should I be aware to prevent this heartbreaking disaster?

#1 - GET OUT - empty handed and naked, if need be.
#2 - Nothing is worth trying to fight a fire from the INSIDE of an RV.
#3 - Unless you are a trained fire/rescue person, don't go near or into a burning RV despite what protection equipment someone convinced you to buy - keep others away and upwind.
RV fires are numerically increasing due to the increase in the number of RV's on the road. The percentage is pretty stable.

You didn't say what DP you have, and if it has LP gas. LP has is the biggest cause of fires, especially the refrigerator that uses LP gas to boil the refrigerator gas for the cooling process.
That why there is a move towards the all electric units which eliminates the LP gas.
The second fire potential fire area is the engine compartment. Some coaches have fire suppression equipment installed.

I didn't know that was the reason for all electric units, I assumed it was because it was easier for the manufacturers. Can you post a link to where you found that?

X2. They are moving to electric appliances as they are cheaper. Definitely not better.

Majority of MH Fires are engine/brake related
Fridge fires can/have occurred and not just on LP but also on AC
House fires occur, vehicle fires occur.....forest fires also
Fires vs number of MHs?
Lots more MHs w/o fires then ones that have fires

I agree with johnhicks on the "Fridge Defender". Mines going in this spring when the coach comes out of hibernation from the Northern Illinois winter. Not Cheap but way cheaper than replacing my coach much less my life! This OEM Dometic side by side is 20 years old & has performed flawlessly. I installed a double fan setup at the top of the condenser with a LED in the eyebrow of the control panel that lets know when they're cooling the system hopefully extending the life of the fridge a bit more.

There are many ways to present the same data about RV fires. For DP in motion the top cause is engine compartment and then wheels and electrical shorts, including the 12 volt system. While parked electrical failures remain a high cause along with propane systems.
For trailers hot wheels are common along with electrical and propane.
Propane refrigerators have and still are used wildly over the world. I have used them when I lived off grid, no issues ever. Like many things regular inspections and maintenance can go a long ways to preventing any kind of fire. Understanding your various systems and how they work helps a lots. Many homes in the US use propane for various heat sources without undue troubles.
Like other have said, if inside when a fire breaks out just get low and get out ASAP. That's why I buy insurance.

My residential refrigerator is larger and works better than any propane fridge. On a large motorhome power is not an issue, lots of batteries, and big generator.
The “Keep your Daydream” YouTube folks started out with propane refrigerators, but got rid of them in favor of a 12v compressor fridge when their food was spoiled one too many times.

Fulltime 13 years now without a failure of the 30-year-old absorption Dometic. I never let it run seriously off-level and I have an ARP.
The Grenville Tower fire several years back started in a residential refrigerator.
The gist of it is that anything that uses fuel or electricity can catch fire and sometimes automatic fire-extinguisher systems can put the fire out or give you more time to get out.
Also get several of the largest extinguishers you can handle, AFFF if possible. That dinky little thing by the door is useless.

I added a Proteng system to my coach. I hope I never see it in action!
