Our home and auto is thru Farmers, and my motorhome (class a) is thru their subsidiary, Foremost. The policy was competitively priced, and best of all, when I had a major claim earlier this year, their service and handling of my claim was first rate. Our policy just renewed, without a rate increase. I couldn't be happier. A cheap rate on insurance is quickly rendered worthless when you have to scratch and claw to get a claim processed.

We had progressive too. Not sure if they were the cheapest but when we had an on the road breakdown and needed to rent another rig, they were helpful in adding same say renters coverage . To me, service and support can be more important than price, good luck

We just switched to AARP The Hartford insurance, Home and auto and RV, saved us over $1200 per year and have lower deductible and better coverage,
Should check it out,

State Farm for 30 years plus. I shop every couple years but no one beats them. However, part of that is due to the length of time we've been with them.

I was with SF for years when we lived in the S/B in NC and elsewhere. One big advantage is that they are a mutual company. This and longevity significantly lower the premiums.

Unfortunately, while they offer RV coverage, their focus is on recreational usage- or, I should say non-fulltime usage. Their policies are not optimal for full-timers, so I had to switch carriers. This advice came from my SF agent, and may possibly apply differently in other states.

I shop every year due to rate increases for no justifiable reason. Just how the insurance business is or should I say the vast majority of agencies are. There are a lot of needs vs. wants when shopping for ones policy at a reasonable price. If your looking for a high deductible and NOT total replacement cost, ie. for a coach that is five years of age or older, generally this price point is achievable reasonably.. If not you really have to research. I started with Progressive, then Blue Sky, back to Progressive, who raised the premium in one year over a thousand as did Blue Sky. We ended up this year with Twin Peaks, broker, with National Interstate and managed to keep the high replacement value along with half million comp and collision at the same price as 2012. One really has to shop.

Perfect timing...... I just changed companies Friday.... After four years of ZERO claims with Progressive, I damaged my hot water heater when I sideswiped a brick post while turning into my driveway this past winter. The claim was $1,047.00... They were great at completing the claim as I expected them to be....

BUT when I received my renewal last week, there was a massive increase in the annual premium - now was going to be $2,261.00. I also want to point out that my annuals have slowly gone up each year with NO claims... When I called about the increase I was told it was an increase of $600 because I had a "collision" recently.... Increasing my premium by $600 for a single $1,000 claim was, again in my opinion, extremely excessive....

Personally, I pay for insurance so that I can use it in the event I have an accident... If I actually eventually have a claim, I certain don't expect them to increase my premium by almost the amount of the claim... Call me crazy I guess.... I especially don't expect it from a company that has insured my cars for almost 20 years....

I called Good Sam and worked with a great guy (Mike Boling 216-592-7083) and he presented me with 5 different carries and we looked at their policies.... Ended up selecting Allied Insurance with an annual premium of $687.00 which totally blew away Progressive's $2,261.00 - PLUS I ended up with better coverage....

Give Mike a call had he will help you find great coverage....

JFXG......

Do you know how many days a year constitute a full-timer in the eyes of an insurance company?? I've been told that if your out only 364 days it's not full-time... So if I use my son's address as my residence, and I stay there one night a year, then as far as insurance is considered, I'm not full-time.... Right?????

Allied will surprise a lot of people with their pricing and coverage. I have had them now for seven years on RV's and a lot longer for auto and home and they have done very well for me.

Calling around 3 years ago when we got the RV and asking about full time coverage we found that there were several different definitions on what each company considered full time. At the time we were not but when we did go full time our insurance rates thru Progressive actually went down. We figured they would go up going from part time to full time but nope they went down.

I don't know-- I suspect it may be a bit different from one carrier to the
next. I never asked the question that way because I really do full-time.

I'll offer this unsolicited advice, though,-- which, like all free advice, is worth what you pay for it. If you try to be clever and tap-dance around their definitions just to save a few hundred bucks, don't be surprised when they do the same thing to you when you file a claim. Ethics Avenue is not a one-way street.
