RV lanes or truck lanes for fuel - what do you use?

When at Flying J / Pilot, etc, do you use the RV fueling lanes or the truck lanes and why?

P.S. I tried a search of this forum and was lost in the weeds for 15 minutes. BTW, is the "advanced" search using keywords a Boolean search? This yielded virtually the same results. I will be the first to admit, I am somewhat of a doofus using the search function.

I always use truck lanes. One of the best things that happened when we moved from gas to diesel was that we count on 10 - 15 minutes in and out for fuel rather than 30 - 60 minutes the the RV lanes. No one leaves their pick-up at the truck pumps to go buy lunch!!!

I typically use the truck lanes simply because it takes half the time to fill up. If they are real busy I use the RV lanes.

I routinely use Pilot/Flying J, always use the truck lanes for the convenience of entering and exiting. Once the diesel RV lane was beside the truck lanes so I thought I would play nice and not get in truck lane. It was a small nozzle pump and I thought I would never get 110 gallons pumped. Back to truck lanes with big nozzle.

We used the RV Lane one time....never again! Too slow for one thing and not so easy to get into and out of.

We always use the truck lanes, which are designed for longer vehicles and they have fast fill nozzles.

Be sure to get the RV Plus Charge Card and you won't have to go inside first and you'll get approximately $0.09 per gallon off the cash price for fuel. Be advised, it's not a typical credit card and is only good for buying fuel at Pilot//Flying J.

I use the truck lanes.

At 67' long with toad, I like to know I'm going to have no issues getting out .

I have the Pilot/FlyingJ card, are you saying that you can start the truck lane pumps with it without going inside to pay either before or after pumping your fuel?

Truck Lane...

With the RV plus card...you can fill up, and get DEF at the pump (my DEF tank is on the correct side ). They have high pressure air, and windshield washing stuff...if you're so inclined. The Driver's are usually courteous, and pull forward to let you in,,,before walking into the store. Much less likely to hit something....but you may have to wipe some spilled diesel off your shoes before hopping back into the coach.

You do not have to go inside for anything....you run the card at the pump, fill up and drive away.

Truck lanes. convenience! As a bonus and a former commercial driver I know my way around a truck stop. I have a Flying hook RV Plus card for pump activation and monthly debit billing with cents off cash price that makes the higher Truck stop prices not as bad and I never have to go inside. I can use the 60 gpm pumps to shorten my time at the pump by a lot !!!! as I'm normally getting over 100 gal .Most have a long handle brush and water hose to rinse bugs off my windshield. Im 65+ feet long and can get in and out easily and trucks generally know the fill and pull forward drill. I can generally pull in and pick out the truck that will not be dragging their feet if the lanes are busy due to all the years I've got a sense of "drivers" to avoid Actually Weekend warriors at the Rv pump are more hassle in my exp.
There are lots of reasons people can come up with to not use them ,higher price.. rude truckers ... having to go in and pay or authorize first and on and on but you asked for reasons I use them.

I agree with all the comments above with one big exception - Indiana. Last week I fueled at the truck islands at FlyingJ in Indiana. The pumps would not accept my FlyingJ credit card and so my wife took it to pay inside. She was unsble to do so. The clerk said it could only be used at the RV pumps. She she used a different Visa card, which meant paying a higher price and no discount. In addition, I was charged an additional tax at the truck pumps because I did not have an ICC number. This is all related to Indiana fuel taxes, so when in Indiana, use the RV pumps.

It's the RV plus card. If you give them your Good Sam membership number when you apply, an automatic discount is applied to the CASH price AND...you do not have to go inside. The pump won't print a receipt...but you can download your history online. When you register...you'll set a PIN. When you get to the pump...

Swipe Card

Enter PIN

Select "TRACTOR"

Select "DEF" (if you want to pump that after diesel) or "SKIP".

It will tell you to start fueling...

When you're done with diesel...you can then remove the DEF pump handle, and press the DEF button on the DEF pump....and dispense into your coach, or a container, if it's not convenient to get to the tank on your coach.

Done...

Truck lanes are a lot quicker, and most truck drivers are a lot more courteous about moving up once they are fueled.
