RV toliet
Has anyone had to replace the toilet in their RV? If so, what did you replace it with? Any suggestions? Jim

What type of RV is it going into, what was there before.
There are factors to start off with.

I know this is probably too logical, but one would think you would replace it with another RV type toilet of similar size and design.

Go with a porcelain commode, like this one:

Easier to clean, and quieter when you must relieve yourself at 3 AM. The plastic toilet has an "echo" to it when you use it.
They come in standard height and offer a taller version. We replaced one in a real old motorhome, and it was very low. The standard height version was much better than the original one.

X2 also I have been thinking about going to a macerator toilet to avoid any problems with the black tank.

As a new RV owner, I thought the foot pedal flush mechanism was a little odd. I had to research to find out how to even use an RV toilet.
Why not a "handle flush" like every indoor toilet has?
My Beaver has a handle flush - but that model is obsolete now and I don't see any new models with handles. Perhaps the drawback to the handle style is the added electronics (do the foot flush styles have any electronics in them?).

The foot flush mechanism is very simple - no electronics and the mechanics are minimal.
After a month or so on the road the handle seems strange.

Had one of those it was a nice unit and pretty high tech. I would have kept it as I just replaced the seal but the circuit board went bad and as you know it was obsolete and even if I could find a new board it would have cost more then a new toilet I went with a new sealand 320 which is a nice unit.

The toilets used in rv's are actually carryovers from the boating industry. When we bought our first Class C [in the early eighties.]the salesman asked us if we knew how to use a Marine toilet. In a boat, if there were water in the bowl it would spill out on the water so you would push the pedal down to put a "head" on it before using it by pushing the pedal part way down. That kept it as clean as possible after use. The same applies if running down the highway. It is easier to push a pedal with your foot than bend over the toilet and push down the handle

We went with the tall porcelain toilet, with the spray wand and foot flush. For guys at least, the foot flush is much more convenient! (smile)
