RV Walk through- can I pay after the walk through?

Tomorrow I am purchasing a class A diesel motor home. I was the person asking about the generators. I will be purchasing the more expensive motor home. It makes sense to pay for the motor home, after the 2 hour walk through. Can I insist on that? Is that what is commonly done? I want to test everything out(inside and out) and test drive it before I pay for this expensive purchase.

Absolutely. Do your walk-through and make them fix everything before you pay or get it in writing that it will be done later if parts need to be ordered. One you pay or sign, you have no leverage.

I agree 100% with Scott. If they try to pressure you into pre paying, find another dealer. You have 0 leverage once you sign and pay.

Yes. As others have commented. After your PDI and fixes.

I wont do it, no way jose, a

I guess I`m an exception. I bought my unit at the often talked about often cursed about Camping World.. Showed up on the day of delivery with my trade the salesman met me at the front door and said your unit is in the service bay lets go have a look. An hour with him showing me all things camper nothing of any consequence popped out at me or him everything worked as designed. Then he said are you ready? Yep, paid, signed and out the door we went. They even had an escort walk in front of us till we got to the front gate and on our way. Yes it was a little tight.
I know people have posted horror stories about camping world but it was just not my experience, could be the Manassas Va. store is just different.
Maybe the salesman has as much if not more to do with a good experience at delivery.

PDI

Get everything fixed prior to signing anything. They are a lot more responsive.
Dealer suggested I inspect the coach the day I picked it up. I said no. I inspected 7 days prior to delivery day so they would have time to fix any problems. There were several problems. Everything from engine oil leaks to FWS seal replacement. This was on a new coach.
Sales manager actually suggested I drive the coach for a few days to see if one of the oil leaks would stop on it's own.
Good luck and be safe

Just 3 months ago I walked away from two different 2018 Tiffins in Arizona from two different sales lots. I had a $1000 credit card deposit and I signed a continent contract on both. After ridiculously poor walk-thru's, I canceled both and was refunded on both. Bring a flash light and spend as much time as you need, if they try to rush you, walk away.

Remember the 2 hour walk thru is to familiarize you with a new coach, take time before that to inspect so you don't waste your time to learn all about a coach you didn't end up purchasing.

As most others have said, I would never sign the papers without doing a PDI, and then only after any problems are fixed!

Oh yes do a thorough walk through and drive.... in fact have someone else drive for a few miles while you walk and listen to the coach. And don’t sign until EVERY thing is the way it should be.

Full PDI, then get what's wrong fixed, then sign paperwork and pay.

I tried to negotiate the inspect first and pay after approach on the last dealer purchase. Dealer wouldn't budge and I finally relented as I had a goo dfeelig that the dealer had a good reputation and was not out to leave me hanging.
That one worked out OK - dealer fixed anything we identified during the walk through and even after returning home and on the road the following spring the dealer response was good when I identified a few additional issues.
That said - if I were to purchase from a dealer I would negotiate IN ADVANCE my requirement to either sign & pay after the PDI or if that wouldn't fly to withhold a significant (10-20%) of purchase price until satisfactory completion of PDI and correction of any identified issues.
If they weren't willing to at least a partial retention I would be willing to walk.
Note: for a recent private purchase I was successful in getting the seller to agree to the above as well as a fairly large amount being withheld until seller provided a clear title.

You have the money the dealer wants. You can make any deal you want and the dealer should be quite willing to be patient while you COMFORTABLY AND THOROUGHLY, inspect your rig.

We paid for ours only after a complete 2 day PDI and after minor repairs were complete.
