Safeco insurance

Hello all - I know the issue of insurance had been discussed many times - but I would like some information if anyone can or would provide it.

I currently have Nationwide insurance thru Miller Insurance Agency in Oregon. The rates have continually increased for the last three years. Yes, I am aware that rates have been going up and some insurance companies are no longer insuring some coaches.

My question is does anyone have experience with Safeco - they have provided a very reasonable rate for my motorhome and I am wondering if this is a come-on rate like Progressive does - get you in then jack your rates up the next year and so on. Also - what kind of service does Safeco provide - great/good/so-so/ awful?

Thanks for any input

I recently switched from Safeco to Nat General. No issues, just huge cost savings.

It may be a teaser rate, but you won't know until next year... Our Safeco policy went up 18% this year
Our agent says they all went up. We switched from GEICO when our rates jumped about the same a year before.

If you can save a bunch, why not. Nothing wrong with switching. There's no special penalty for switching.

I've had Safeco on our vintage '94 MH for the 3 years we've owned it. The rate is very good and I can take the insurance off during the months it's parked. I've been a Safeco customer for over 50 years.

Safeco Insurance

Well I just became a SAFECO (Liberty Mutual) customer this year when I finally moved from a TT to a Class A. Liberty Mutual (main company) insures everything but MH though they don't offer multi-vehicle discounts. I called around and they had a good review and rate. I was talking to a find over the weekend and he claims that Progressive had an excellent rate and his recent experience with them he couldn't say enough good things about them. I might just look into their rates this week.

We got our insurance thru the AARP with the Hartford Insurance. For the MH we pay $941/yr. We also got our homeowners and auto insurance thru the Hartford at the same time. We unfortunately had an accident with the MH and they paid for everything (except the deductible) - no problems. What yours will cost will depend on your location, vehicle, deductible, etc. but it's worth a phone call.

safeco insurance

I have been in the insurance industry for over 30 years with a fortune 50 company; the major difference in company to company are the rates and how well they deliver the product (or service). Find your best rate, but be prepared to check rates offered by various carriers from time to time. If you are with one carrier too long--odds are you are paying more than those who check rates. By the way, look for carriers that offer annual policy renewals versus those that offer 6 month policies. Same applies to your autos.

Good advice from RayJo.

Personally I fond very little difference in service from any of the major insurers. I call or report via online form, they send out an adjuster to wherever the coach is, and negotiate the details with the repair shop I choose. On a large claim, they all seem to nitpick on some item or another, and they all seem intractable once they have taken a position on something, but overall they do alright. Many of the irate complaints I read are largely because the owner thought the policy covered something it did not, usually because they didn't read the policy or ask enough questions about it in advance.

Just my opinion and worth every penny you paid for it!

My safeco rate has changed very little in 8 years, and they have replaced the windshield three times with zero deductible.

Well said and very true. I'm in the insurance industry. Everyone wants to compare price only. The main complaints we have with claims comes from those who went cheap usually and signed off declining the coverages they really needed.

We've been with Safeco on the MH for several years but never had a claim. So far they have had the best rate!

I'm shopping for insurance too, on a new coach we are taking delivery on this coming week. Safeco came in $75/yr cheaper than my State Farm agent, comparing apples to apples. For that, I'd stay with my local agent who's known me 15 yrs. Waiting on Geico and A couple others for quotes to make a choice.

Like you I have been with State Farm for many years. I was looking at quotes from many companies and they all quoted at least a $500 deductible on their comprehensive coverage, most $1000. My current State Farm policy has a $0 deductible, and the other companies will not offer it at any price. So I am staying on the Farm. You may want to check your coverage for the $0 deductible comprehensive.
