Which sat service provides cheapest yet options and what is the best antenna for either of these services. Just trying to get general info . Neither service provides very clear info.

I have Dish but I have not done a detailed comparison. However, I would recommend an external antenna. I have the Wingard X2 and it works very well. It automatically finds the satellites. We had one on the roof that went bad. Instead of replacing it, we went with a portable one. We went to many places where an antenna on the roof would have not gotten a signal. With 100 feet of coax, we can place it where it will work. We have an app on the phone that shows us where the satellites are so you can find a location with a clear view.

I have a new 'Tailgater' that I installed on the roof for Dish. (VQ4500). Did have the portable one and decided to go with the one that is permanently mounted on the roof. Simple install and it works great. If you have Dish at home, they only charge you $7 a month and you call at the end of the season to discontinue in winter.

The portable one is nice if you are parked where there are trees that get in the way though.

I have Directv with the Genie HD system and love it. The only sat antenna that recieves the HD signal is the Winegard Trav'ler.

The best is the Winegard Trav'ler roof mounted. But they both do use a different model.

Probably almost equal between them. Depends on what package of programs you want. They start out at around $30 and go to over $100.
DirecTV has options of more then one receiver $, HD $$, DVR receiver $$, Whole Home $, for Full Time RV you may want DNS $$, many premium channels $$, new 4K channel $$.

All the choices are yours to make it cheap or High $$$.

Your right, the costs aren't clear. I've found that you really don't know what the total will be until you get involved with one or the other. At that point, as time goes on, you will add and delete features and really impact your total bill. The base price is just that...a base to which you add lots of choices.

I think the easiest choice is to use the service that you have at home. Just grab your box and hit the road. I take my box that has the DVR and controls two TVs. It's not made for the rough treatment of the road, but Dish has always replaced it immediately (I pay the monthly fee which has certainly paid for itself!).

When home, I pull it out of the coach and plug it into my living room.

If you don't have satellite, this plan won't work....you generally have to hook up for two years!....so a bad choice can be painful. Better to find a friend that has one or the other, and go visit them to learn the differences.

I have one Direct TV receiver and move it between my (2) homes and my RV.. I have a dish on each home and one that I carry in the RV... all are supplied by Direct TV and on the RV I set it up, aim it and once I get a good signal (10-20 min) I call them and have them send a signal to my receiver to get the local channels... I guess that I set the dish in the RV maybe 10-15 times a year... and for years its been a simple task..

I have DISH and both a manual 'open faced' antenna(as you see mounted on most homes) on a tripod, and a King Tailgater2 portable Automatic acquisition unit, especially useful when traveling - mounted on my rear roof. I can move it on the roof, or bring it down to the ground if needed.

The original setup, the open faced antenna, was installed by the Dish tech company, who set it up initially where I was parked at the time, and hooked up the three VIP211k receivers(Living, Bed, Outside TVs). Works great, gets all three satellites for all three TVs. I don't remember if a paid a 'tech fee' or not, but I'm sure it was not more than $99, which included the Dish and Tripod and cables. The three receivers are on the account, but they only charge for the two 'additional' receivers, since one is included, at $7 each monthly.
You can purchase this same setup(1 receiver) at CW and others for maybe $199, but why if DISH will 'give' it to you when you open an account?

I later purchased the portable Tailgater2 to satisfy the need for Sat tv when traveling, without having to even get out and set up an antenna - works great, and is automatic, though it only really supplies a true 3 satellite signal to one MAIN tv, but will also supply to a secondary receiver/tv, but is limited to only channels from a single satellite.

our CHANNEL package is their '250', which runs about $113 monthly for two receivers and the 'maintenance' plan($8) [this plan came in handy while we were initially traveling - the dish fell over and did damage - they replaced it and it for no charge]

I cannot at this time verify the validity of this answer, but the direct tv sales rep at Sam's Club told me that I did not have to get an antenna or move my receiver out of my house if the tv was a smart tv. I could use the direct tv app (provided. I had a good internet connection . I pick up my coach next week and will give. It a try.

Nope, that's advertising that Winegard puts out to make you think theirs is the only one. The old MotoSat HD with the RF Mogul Eagle RE-1 controller as well as it's replacement unit, the RF Mogul Eagle will also. Here's the REAL story.

I have the original MotoSat HD dish but I did have to buy the Eagle RE-1 controller when Direct made some changes to their location broadcasting. I just take two of the receivers from the stick house with me as allowed by the Direct TV TOS.

Therealvor I don't know what kind of parks you will be utilizing but most have inadequate wifi signals in my opinion. Using data from hot spots such as your phone can get quite costly trying to stream video. We have the winegard traveler and directv dvd from home for our LR tv and the wireless mini genie for our berm. Do not get locals as they are spot beamed so have to use antenna for ota.
