SC MH owners: Property tax?

Hi all,

I am trying to figure out the RV property tax in South Carolina.

Any RV owners from SC in this forum? How much am I expected to pay for 2003 Newmar Mountain Aire DP?

TIA.

I am in West Columbia in Lexington county and it depends on the county you live in.I can go on Lex-co.com and it will estimate for me my 2011 Newmar Canyon Star ran about $1800.00 this year what a rip off

Did you just purchase the motorhome, or are you moving to South Carolina? The tax is based on valuation of the motorhome (set by taxing authority), multiplied by the tax rate. The exact tax rate varies by county/city. I was told when I bought my previous motorhome that they maintain the valuation for the first three years and then begin to depreciate in the fourth year. You can save some money if you can claim the motorhome as a primary, or secondary home (6% of valuation vs. 10.5% of valuation for a "vehicle"). You can also transfer tags from a previous RV, if done within 30 days of purchase of a new one (new to you). As far as amount, it is really hard to say. On the coach I traded last year (2003 American Eagle 42') I paid a little over $800 with it categorized as a second home. I live in Greenville county. I transferred tags to my new 2011, and the taxes continued from the previous one (just paid them).

Each county is a little different best way is to just call your tax office. That way there are no surprises when you get it home. In Oconee county for a $75k motorhome it runs about 1k for property tax. This is at the same rate as a house. Hope this helps.

Wow and I thought the DMV fees here in Cali were a rip off!!!
We don't pay property tax on RV.s just DMV fees.
Now boats are a different story.

But do you pay 6% sales tax to a maximum of $300 on your purchase? We do! That's a rhetorical question. I lived in California for more than half my life. I took delivery of my 2011 American Eagle last year and only paid the $300. I can pay my property taxes for several years on the savings vs. California sales taxes.
