SCS/Frigette entry steps stuck in retracted position
hi all...
my '05 Dutch star has the SCS/Frigette electric steps. They have worked just fine since I purchased 1.5 years ago. Today out of the blue, they will not extend. Checked the switch and the door switch. I have power in all the right places, (I think). Any ideas? If it was a motor failure, wouldnt I have had some some sort of warning?
Also, it appears that I can extend the steps manually by removing 2 allen screws that go thru a collar on each end of what i think is a drive shaft. But it appears to be almost impossible to remove these screws as they are about inaccessible .
Any help would be appreciated.

If you can get the wiring diagram, I would disconnect the electrical connector and check for voltage getting to the connector. You can also apply voltage direct from the battery to the steps see if they move. This will tell you if it is your motor or a bad switch. Did you check your fuse/breaker?

Try tapping on the steps or mechanism with a mallet. BE CAREFUL, the steps could move with your head or hand in bad place! If they don't move, try unplugging the connection where wires go into the control box and motor, testing voltage there. If you Google your step make and model, you will probably find a trouble shooting guide and manual.

Thanx everyone. Problem solved. Some of my discoveries: the manual's troubleshooting section is poorly worded; I did the obligatory pounding, checked BOTH fuses. Lastly I connected 2 wires to my lawn mower battery and jumped into the connection just prior to the motor. Motor ran fine both directions-- so the failed component was the control module. So my contribution to this forum is to tell all DIY'ers to SHOP SHOP SHOP. The module was available at online stores everywhere from $104 to $320. Guess which one I bought? Thanks folks!

Who gave you the $104?

Not sure who the vendor was--- the best price on the part was thru Amazon. But it came quickly and installed in a 30 minutes or so. Problem solved.

I love shopping on Amazon!
In fact I do MOST of my purchasing there versus other places.
They have the greatest return policy.

Electric Step Problem
Hello people,
We have the Owner's Manual for the SCS/Frigette Coach Step and are currently having problems with our electric entry step. The contact numbers in the manual are no longer valid and point us to a cruise ship company. Does anyone have contact info for this company OTHER THAN THE FOLLOWING NUMBERS 1-800-433-1740 or 1-800-275-7524. The first number points to a weight loss program and the second one points to a cruise ship. ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED !

SCS/Frigette went out of business and the business was purchased by Victory Climate Systems.
