Second Owner - extended warranty policy.

The recent thread regarding factory warranty for 2nd owners got me thinking (not good).
We recently purchased our 1st MH and find there are LOTS of things to be done to "keep up the maintainance" on the chassis, engine etc. We also purchased an extended warranty contract with Good Sam and note that all the required maint. must be kept up to factory requirements (but not necessarily by factory dealers) for coverage to exist. Two questions:
1. Purchased from a dealer with no knowledge of prior owner nor maintainance records.
2. What if I miss a time requirement while waiting on the mileage requirement. Example - Cummins requirement to check valve settings at 150k miles or 4 years. Though no where near 150k miles this '04 coach is past due on the 4 years.
Wonder just how strict Good Sam would be if it appeared an owner was trying to do the right thing?
We are about to have a 60k check done plus all the "time" items we can find (60k seems to be the first really big check) however cannot prove any prior maint.

You should probably call the Extended Warranty Company and ask them your questions. If the answer means you are SOL, get a pro-rated refund (should be most of what you paid). If the answer is what you want to hear, ask them where that is stated in your contract and if is not in the contract, could they PLEASE just put that in writing for you. Either way, it beats waiting to find out bad news when it's too late to get your money back for a extended warranty that me be of little or no value to you!

I've never ever been asked about prior maintenance when making a claim, but then I don't have the GS CSP as my insurer, nor have I had any claims where something like engine maintenance might be an issue.

You probably won't get a straight answer that let's you off the hook - they aren't ever going to tell you "it's ok if it wasn't maintained". But as long as the repair shop is saying they do not think lack of maintenance is a factor in whatever repair is being done, I suspect you will be ok.

Engine & chassis lubrication are the main things to be concerned about - get those up to snuff ASAP, bith for your benefit and the CSP. Valve adjustment is a perfromance concern and is not likely to cause damage or premature failure unless way out of whack.

Extend warranties are trying to get out of most claims in the last year to two years. Just yesterday, I was re-educated that a mechanical failure of a of a slide out roller pin retainers was a "ADJUSTMENT", which is not covered under a extend warranty. You must carefully read the exclusions, or what is not covered clause. All state proper maintenance records must be maintained. Normal wear and tear, as well as corrosion, are not covered. It seems that these companies all want out of claims anymore. BEWARE!!!

I will add my story, which I have retold numerous times on this forum...when I bought my 01 Dynasty, I also bought the GS policy. About 3 months later I had a hydraulic pump leak, which cost $1400 in labor and parts to repair....GS denied the entire claim because "it leaked out of a seal" and that is an exclusion....so, as RV Trax said, read your policy VERY carefully so you know all of the exclusions....

Thanks for the replys. As a precaution we just had a local truck maintainance facility (also do 6-8 MH's per week) do a 60K mile check on both engine and chassis. This check appeared to be the most comprehensive and now with 6 new tires, new tpms, new Blue Ox towing system and new US Gear tow brake.............. it's off to points west for several weeks.
The 60K check was a suprisingly small $385. Our "unknown" MH must have been pretty well maintained as the inspection revealed no major discrepancies and only a few minor ones. Makes us feel better about the upcoming 5,000 miles
Thanks again,
Harold Miller
