Sewer flies in black tank

How do I get rid of them. I dump once a week then flush and add new chemicals.

To prevent future drain fly infestations, clean your drains (they live there not in the tank) once a week. Start by dumping 1/2 cup salt down the drain. Then dump 1/2 cup baking soda down on top of it. Follow that with 1 cup of plain white vinegar, and let the fun begin.

On my coach they live in the black tank. I know this because they fly out when I open the flush valve to drain the toilet. How do I kill the flies that live in the black tank?

Set off a bug spray "bomb" in the outside drain with the dump valve open and them put drip cap on to seal up the drain pipe and tank. Leave for a day and remove "bomb".

Change your roof vent to one with a screen on it

Do you leave your grey tank valve open all the time? If so this may be how the flies are getting into your system. Fill and flush your grey tank. Never leave the black tank valve open unless you are dumping your tank. After dumping add 1/4 tank of fresh water.
In the meantime, fill your black tank completely full and let it sit as long as you can then dump it. Close the valve and add a 1/4 tank of fresh water and your choice of chemical(s).
If you suspect the flies are coming in your vent (which I doubt) try wrapping a piece of cheese cloth around the vent cap and secure it with a rubber band or a zip tie.

Go up on your roof and watch your vent. Dozens per hour go in and out.

Funny you say that. I was up there changing a start capacitor in my rear AC Monday which was in close proximity to the black tank vent and I don't recall seeing any flies other than common house flies.
Maybe it's because I take better care of my tanks than the average RV'r.

I guess common house flies don't count.

They don't count. Their fur was even dry. Couldn't have been sewer flies.

This happened to me after a camping trip… I cured it with the bug bomb. Now I do not leave the sewer hose connected when I’m done dumping and have not had a problem since.

Never had the problem, but have seen them when I first hook up at the sewer connection. Once I pull the cap, to connect the dump hose, this is when I see them.

All I do is create a trap in the dump hose with water to stop them from coming up the dump hose. This will keep the little buggers from getting into the black or grey tank….

This is how I do it also.
