Ok, I am new to RV'ing, but I have noticed that when I drive my motorhome I get a lot of sewer gas smell back in the bathroom area., I fill my P traps in the sink with water and make sure that the toilet has water in it. What am I missing? I use a deoderizer in the tank. Help!!!

If you do a search for sewer smell or odor, you'll come up with quite a few more.

We had the same problem. We installed a "Cyclone black water Vent" and problem gone. Its avaiable at Camping world or on line for less than $20.00. Takes less than 1/2 hr to install.

We fill a ziplock bag with water and place it on the shower drain.Make sure all other drains are closed.

Look under the sink, cabinets, etc for a "Check Vent". These are usually used rather than making a pipe run to the roof vent. They may stick open, which will cause odor. That was the problem with our MH and was very hard to find as the vent was up along side the sink behind the drawers next to the sink. I replaced the one in the kitchen and bad smell went away, I replaced the one in the bathroom anyway as they are cheap and easy to replace once you find them. The previous owner had even taken it to the selling dealer was charged $100.00 and the problem was not found. When I told the previous owner what I had found he was mad at the dealer for doing nothing and charging $100. Look hard all around near the sinks and you will find these oneway vents installed on top of a vertical pipe. You have to have vents right after the traps or the suction would pull the water out of the traps. Good luck!

What you have is a air pressure problem. I cant believe a dealer does not the know the remeady for this. When you are driving, air is going down the roof sewer vents. this air gets into holdig tanks, which pressurizes them. This in turn leaks out at traps and seals. If you check with your dealer or camping world, they sell ventures that you install on your roof sewer vents and creates a suction or negative pressure in your tanks.

Also, don't forget the p-trap for the washer/dryer!!! We fill that whenever we park if we aren't going to do wash or we've had a really "rocky" ride. We got a long piece of hard white plastic tubing and stuffed a foot at least down into the washer drain pipe/p-trap area and then up through the hole in the access shelf over to the side and then to the door so we can fill it with a funnel whenever we want... takes 10 seconds and sure helps!!!!
