Shaking front end
After 2 sets of tires, Pittman arm changed, shocks changed, and tiers balanced and rebalanced. Now mechanic says it is the steering gearbox causing the vibration, the last shop said it may be a bent rim. RV starts vibration at about 50mph up to 70mph. I have an allegro 35' 2004 on a w22 chassis. Can a steering box cause this shaking? They say the steering box cost $3400.00

Wheel bearing or possible a ball joint? Also the suspension is leaf spring I would check all the U bolts at frame to axle. As well as bolts/bushings for the leaf springs where they attach to the frame.

Yes a bad steering box can give you front end vibration but at $3400 theres a lot of other things you might check first.

Have you had more than one shop or person check it out?

This is the second shop. His mechanic drove it today. After I went by there and talked with shop manager, he decided he would test drive it also. I will find out more tomorrow maybe.

A steering box wil not cause your problem sounds like a tire, rim or bearings

What chassis?
Ford was known to have a problem centering the wheels on the front axle and came out with a shim kit to do it right. Has that been checked (if you have a Ford)?

Well, it could. But you wouldn't be able to keep it on the road if it was that loose.

I had the same problem. Bought it to one shop. Said I had a bent rim. I was traveling towards home in FL. so I just kept going. Went to Josam in Orlando. Rims were fine. My new tires were out of round. 2 tires out of 6. They were Goodyear 670.
He shaved them and made them round. Problem was solved.
