The transfer switch has a 20 to 30 second delay before switching to generator. It can't chatter between the two sources unless it's a real slooow chatter.

Can you do it, sure. A couple thoughts.
If you run the genny, the genny will be the main power source. It will only switch back to shore power if the genny fails.
Do you have neighbors who may not particularly like to hear the generator running all day?

This is how mine works too... And I know for a fact that when the gen transfer switch puts it online, it will also trip the shore power's GFCI!
My recommendation is an AC power fail automatic generator start system. I saw a couple the other day but can't seem to find them tonight. I'll search again later. There are two types, one that starts basically when house battery voltage falls below a certain point, and the other that starts when AC shore power fails.

My Onan manual states you should not start generator if on shore power. I always read and follow the manuals, that keeps it simple.

"Weak" relay contacts is right up there with tires being "bruised" from parking on gravel. Myths all around.
