Shore power or generator not working

I’ve got a 2012 Journey 42e, living in it full time. Took a 5 hour drive to Michigan today after staying at a full hookup site for a couple days and noticed the AC’s not working a couple hours in. After making it to my next campsite, the coach batteries are low and when plugged up to shore power it’s showing no service. I have a surge protector that my 50A plug goes into and it’s showing there’s power. When I start the generator it shows on the power control system that it’s being supplied power by the generator but doesn’t seem to be charging the batteries nor will the AC power on. I’ve done a soft And hard reset on my magnum inverter but still no luck

Any ideas?

If the inverter is bad, would I not still be able to run shore power to some outlets? Or could a bad inverter be keeping me from getting shore power at all?

The power to your A/Cs does not go through the inverter so I doubt that is your problem. First thing is to eliminate the surge protector to see if it's blocking power from the pedestal. If that's not the issue, then more than likely it's a transfer switch problem.

so what is common to both shore power and generator power? they become common at the output of the transfer switch. so for both to not work i would look for an open connection at the output of the transfer switch.

have you absolutely confirmed that you have no a/c power from either source. you mention a/c not working. what about the microwave? does the light come on. plug a light or radio into a couple of 120 vac receptacles and verify whether they have power or not.

it might be possible that you have 120vac present but the a/c does not come on as it needs 12vdc to power the thermostat.

if you could verify exactly what has power and what doesn't that would help to identify the scope of the problem.

Thanks for quick reply, Lt Dan. Thankfully, I’m up north in the cooler weather. APT was ordered Monday and came in today. My Easy Care plan covered the repair. I was able to find where the hot wire coming from shore power to APT melted the terminal where it lands. Hoping no more damage was caused and a new APT switch gets me up and running!

Thanks for the insight, bigchick! Getting the automatic power transfer switch replaced today. Hopefully that does the trick!
