Side or rear radiator?
The Winnebago Tour is built on the Freightliner Maxum chassis - is that a side or rear radiator?

The Tour has a rear radiator..... we looked at one last month. Nice coach but would be better with side radiator.

Hello 46 years as a Diesel Mechanic worked on a ton of buses and I just bought a new to me used Diesel pusher with a side rad may cost more and the reason is its better easier to have someone work on your engine,rad stays cleaner. The people who build buses for a living most always use a side rad that must tell you something, yes many cost more to buy outright but the cost you gain back when you need to have someone do a simple job like change a fan belt etc on a rear rad for them to do it is time costs money and you will pay dearly then. Just my Canadian 2 cents worth.

Dam! Searched their website and all the reviews and could not find a word about the radiator. Figured they would have bragged if it was a side, so not a surprise that it is rear.
What did you think of the Tour? I am shopping also. What are the top 2 units you have seen, and what makes them best?

We really liked the Tour (bath and half), but could not get over the lack of insulation.
We just ordered a Newmar Dutch Star, custom ordered for $30,000 less then the Winny dealer was willing to go. We also toured the factory.
My vote is to compare with Newmar.

My Winnebago UA has a side radiator, and I have not had to clean it/had any overheating problems in over 65k miles ...while I have heard plenty of problem stories from friends with rear rads. I really like the build quality of my Winnebago, but would have great difficulty buying one with a rear Rad.

While I would much rather have a side rad, at that level of coach for us floorplan would trump rad location, I like the DutchStar's but they haven't got the best floorplan for our wants.
Since we'll be living in it way more than driving it, floorplan trumps rad location for us.
I don't think having to clean the rear rad yearly will be that big of a deal

That was the problem we had as well. Newmar's 4318 is a very close copy of Winny's QD, and I mean very close. We've walked through both.
Radiator location was the very last item on the list of things. Our present motorhome has 100,000 miles on a rear radiator. I still don't have any fear of driving it anywhere.
The one thing that I kept asking Winny about was all electric and now it is available on the 2013.
We make our living from the road, so livability was our top concern.
We looked at:
Tiffen Allegro Bus
Winnebago Tour
Newmar Dutch Star
Entgra Aspire
Also in the running (42' bath and 1/2 models) all MSRPing around $379,000.
Fleetwood Providence
Monaco Diplomat
Good luck with your search and if you get the chance tour some factories.
P.S. To get exactly what we wanted required custom ordering.

One thing thay could be considered a negative to a side radiator is it takes up a fair amount of space that is storage on a rear radiator.

As pointed out earlier, the side rad will save money in the long run. I have had 5 DP's. One with a rear rad, there is nothing wrong with them but I do my own service and believe me, they will charge more to work on one. Try looking at the fan belt on a rear rad much less changing it out!
